The man who wants to unseat Governor Ronnie Musgrove is trying to figure out how to get more blacks who usually vote Democratic to vote for him.
Republican Haley Barbour won enough votes on August 5th to face Musgrove in November. He's been traveling around the state meeting with voters, and periodically meeting with black community leaders. That's what he did Thursday in Jackson in a closed-door strategy meeting. Daryl Neely is a consultant for the Barbour campaign. He expects Barbour to do well with black voters.
"Haley Barbour has credible African American support around the state. They are part of the campaign. They have suggestions, advice and counsel that's not just heard, but implemented, and it's just another step in the campaign, just as you meet with other supporters on a regular basis to gather their ideas and implement them. The same thing was done yesterday," said Neely.
