Dean's wife focusing on career, not campaign
This lady sounds so cool. What an interesting, dignified, and human response to national politics. The pundits won't know what to do with her if she refuses to play the game.

<snip>
She had reluctantly agreed to talk with a reporter about her husband's presidential run, but she made clear once, then twice: If a patient called, the conversation was over.

Such is the focus of the wife of Democratic contender Howard Dean. Work is not something to be shunted aside for interviews, sidelined for her husband's ambition. Indeed, if Dean, the former governor of Vermont, wins the White House, Steinberg says, her life will go on as before.

"I'll still practice medicine," she says in a demure but firm tone

2. She sounds like she is more than up to it
I don't think she has any intention to be chewed up and spat out by the celebrity machine in this country, and if she refuses to play the game, there isn't anything the media can do about it. Really cool.

3. Only in her professional line does she drop Dean, but
in her private life she goes by Judy Dean.

Well, assuming Howard goes all the way, Judy looks like she will write a new chapter for First Ladies. Good for her!

8. Both Dr. Deans worked at the same practice
And, it is my understanding, that she uses her maden name to help patients differentiate between them:
Dr. Dean
and
Dr. Steinberg
rather than
Dr. Dean
and
Dr. Dean

4. I'm looking to Judith Steinberg as an example to keep my own sanity
Yes, I am actively involved in my husband's campaign (I'm his research chief and I've gone with him to appearances), but one of the things I'm trying to avoid is my own Stepfordization.

Not that I'd be in too much of a fishbowl if he won (hell, I'd probably stay here in WI), but it's inspiring to see someone stick to her guns.

6. Yeah, Dean respects his wife and treats her as an individual...
Instead of property. Next thing you know, she'll want to wear pants and vote. Then what would happen to the country? Anarchy, that's what.

7. Now SHE is a champ.
And I don't blame her one bit for not wanting to be part of the political arena.
