A tale of 2 Dem Prez Campaigns
Hartford Courant: Caucus -- http://www.ctnow.com/news/politics/hc-caucus0826.artaug26,0,1274097.story?coll=hc-headlines-politics-state

Major League This must be a Nutmeg joke.
From the standpoint of New Hampshire baseball fans and their families, and a guy running for president who's trying to crack the top three in the New Hampshire primary - a campaign promotion to give away Red Sox tickets makes all the sense in the world. It would make sense even if the wilt-in-August Sox weren't battling for a wild card spot in the playoffs.

But the candidate who cooked up this little scenario is Joe Lieberman, a lifelong Yankees fan. Which means the Connecticut senator has some explaining ` to do.

"This contest has a special dispensation from (Yankees manager) Joe Torre," explained Lieberman spokesman Adam Kovacevich. "Joe Lieberman will be a president for all Americans - even Red Sox fans."

The promotion is called "See Joe's Car & Go See Nomar," referring to Nomar Garciaparra, the Red Sox shortstop, as opposed to Derek Jeter, the Yankees shortstop Lieberman would normally root for.

SLEEPLESS IN SPOKANE
A wide-awake overflow crowd turned out in Spokane, Wash., to see Democrat Howard Dean, a presidential wannabe, Monday morning in day three of his four-day "Sleepless Summer" tour.

The unexpectedly large crowd overwhelmed Dean's organizers, one day after a speech in Seattle drew the largest turnout of his campaign - 8,000.

The West Central Community Center in Spokane was too small - some of the curious had to stand outside during the former Vermont governor's speech.

"Our goal was a nice little town hall meeting for 150 to 200 people," said Tom Keefe, Spokane County Democratic Party chairman. "We didn't know half the town would show up."

<SNIP>

Sos Joe has to bribe people to see him, and Dean shows up in town to give Bush hell and the crowds pour in.

2. cartoon cheap shot
Dean never said that or anything close to it. it's easy to ridicule a candidate if you can put completely made-up words in his mouth.

4. Sharpton says that if he's being criticized for believing a 16 year old
girl, he'll accept that.

It's a great retort.

10. a national leader needs to exercise some critical thinking ability
... before believing ANYONE - even a 16 year old girl. and Sharpton didn't just "believe" the girl - he smeared people based on his "belief". he demonstrated extremely poor judgment, unbecoming of someone seeking high office.

5. boondocks does a pretty good job of criticizing
Sharpton, too. This one just takes a jab at the reaction to Dean vis-a-vis Sharpton. And I think there is an element of truth to it. Not that it really indicts Dean so much, just people's (the media's?) reaction to Dean.

11. it's still a cheap shot
Not that it really indicts Dean so much, just people's (the media's?) reaction to Dean.

Dean does his own thinking, he doesn't echo Sharpton, and any cartoonist who says otherwise needs to get his head out of his ass. Dean has crafted a fine optimistic and aggressive message, and he fully deserves the positive attention he's gotten in the media. any cartoonist who implies that Dean doesn't deserve it, or that Sharpton deserves credit for Dean's success, needs to get a grip on reality.

I can't post a picture of a whining baby, but I can incite a memory from The Simpsons' own bad-boy, Nelson: "Ha ha!"

8. but, but, but if Candidate #2 gets elected
Dems will wander in the wilderness for 40 years. Sorry Joe. NOT!!

Dean will clean your clock and then put chimpboy on a one way plane ride back to Crawford in 2005.
