Kucinich: Blackout, caused by deregulation
"The blackout that occurred a couple weeks ago is a symptom of a system that is sick through deregulation -- a system where private control of utilities has meant less service, service vulnerabilities, high rates."

<snip>

"This administration has no intention of getting to the bottom of anything," Kucinich said. "That means causing the American people to be on the alert that their economic interests are at stake. This administration is at the front ... of predatory efforts to privatize everything."

1. Good point DK....now if this just keeps growing til
the average Americancan get this point...

"a system where private control of utilities has meant less service, service vulnerabilities, high rates."

I also like the fact he wants to cooperate...what a fresh breath of air!

"Kucinich was joined by Howard Hampton, the leader of the Ontario New Democratic Party and a candidate for that province's premier. They said more cooperation is needed between Canada and the United States to protect energy consumers. "

Go Dennis!!
:hi: & thanks AnAmerican

Peace

3. This is a good issue for the Dems
Americans hate the utilities. Apparently, the Canadians are not too fond of them either.

4. Exactly the opposite of what the NYTimes said
Apparently coming to Bush's rescue by saying the blackout was caused by not going to deregulation fast enough.

DK is so right on this issue.

5. At least one candidate is standing up.
Dennis has a history of standing up for the people. He is absolutely right about deregulation.

6. Is it too much to expect a more repentant or apologetic response?
"The task force doesn't include employees of FirstEnergy Corp., the utility at the center of the investigation. Nor have organizers requested investigators from International Transmission Co., owner of Michigan power lines that failed in the blackout.

Kucinich, a longtime critic of Akron, Ohio-based FirstEnergy, earlier this month called for Ohio regulators to revoke FirstEnergy's operating license. FirstEnergy has called Kucinich's request speculative and irresponsible."

Kucinich is doing his duty as a public servant by stating that FirstEnergy Corp. has lost the privilege to have its operating license when it overcharges consumers, does little to invest this capital in improving the power grid, and doesn't even believe that ratepayers are "entitled" to the power which they are paying excessive prices for. But they believe that any public servant who does not follow the wishes of their lobbyists, are speculative and irresponsible. What does this make us?

If they could have it their way we would be paying these rates, while only recieving the energy that we paid for once a week. When will the other primary candidates address this issue?
