Great house party for Dennis in Santa Ana.
Everyone met over a freeway overpass in Orange and got a lot of attention. Then the event moved to a home in Santa Ana, where there was a potluck and a video of Dennis. But the highlight of the evening for everyone present was when Dennis called on the speaker phone. The thing about Dennis that is special is that he is honest and he stands by his principles. While at least one other candidate keeps changing his positions to gain votes, everyone knows where Dennis stands and that he has the integrity to stand up to special interests for what is right. America is very lucky to have a candidate such as Dennis running for President.

Later in the evening, 12 year old Natasha recited her "A Hero For America" poem ( about Dennis) and presented another poem Dennis had inspired her to write, "Do You Know Where Your Candidate Stands." There are a number of children working on Dennis's campaign in Orange County. They believe Dennis will be a President they can trust to make America the kind of country they want to grow up in.

1. Sounds like a good time was had by all. ..
And I think it's great when supporters get together. Too bad you had to throw in the barb about the unnamed candidate who "changes his positions" to get votes. Hmmm, who could that be directed at, I wonder?

3. And of course...
Kucinich has never changed a position, right?

All politicians should, never, ever, ever in any circumstance change a position. Is that what we really want?

You probably have never, after getting more information, or considering other facts, changed your mind on an issue, right?

Perhaps we haven't yet learned what havoc an idealogue can wreak?

It's really too bad that a nice post about a nice event gets tainted by a smarmy comment.

I know a number of Kucinich supporters. They NEVER talk poorly of other candidates. They simply promote who they see as the best individual. Unfortunately few of them are here...

4. There's evolution
on an issue, such as Kucinich who evolved in his thinking on the issue of choice. And then there is Dean, who is running for President, and can't make up his mind where he stands on so many of the issues. Balance the budget yes? no? Death penalty yes? no? Gay marriage yes? no? Oppose the war yes? no?

I think it is important that when you decide to run for President, that you make up your mind about where you stand on things, and, oh, I don't know, maybe even have a plan for the country. How can anyone support a candidate who can't make up his mind on important issues?

This is constructive criticism, of course, and not Dean bashing. :-)

5. Bullcrap.
If Kucinich can "evolve" on choice and be excused for the extremely rapid evolution and extremely convenient timing of his shift...which I think he CAN be...as long as he backs up the words with deed...

The why can't Dean undergo similar rapid and convenient "evolutions" as well?

Hypocrisy stinks.

9. Elapsed time is important, I think
When someone changes their position literally overnight, as Dean seems to have done on Iraq, usually some word other than 'evolution' is used to describe it. (on 20th Feb he told Salon that he would support unilateral invasion; on the 21st he told the AP that he'd only support invasion as part of a UN force)

Kucinich's position on Choice seemed to take about a year, with an undefined state in the middle. I believe that's more in line with what most people think of as 'evolution'.

12. How many "evolutions" will it take?
What's the next shoe to fall? I am anti-abortion myself, but that doesn't really mean anything since I'm a man. I would hope any woman I achieved the act of conception with would want to keep my child, but this is America. It's her body that we're talking about putting through this, not mine. I would support whatever she decides.

On the other hand, I do not support the Iraq war, or letting our men be killed to increase the bottom line in the books at Halliburton, Bechtel, etc. How can anyone justify keeping our men in that shooting gallery? Yet Dean has gone from the anti-war candidate (well after Dennis Kucinich, who actually took a stand in Congress) to saying we need to be in Iraq. Just another "evolution"?

6. Returning to the topic,
I'm so glad the house party went well, genius.

I traveled to Santa Ana to meet Dennis this summer; a long way from the Antelope Valley! These days I'm making a shorter trip down to the SF Valley; a great group of supporters and a bunch of things scheduled for Sept.

Are you going to attend the LA County Fair in Pomona? We'll have a presence there!

7. way to go genius
The Kucinich campaign in Ca. is doing a great job. I was visiting Long Beach last week and did some tabling for Dean, the only other candidate people mentioned by name was Kucinich.

Also at both events I tabled at, Kucinich was the only other candidate to have a presence and I was glad to see them. Gotta love people advocating for a regime change, even if they have a different preference of how to go about it.

Grassroots are powerful, just remember that we will all be democrats united against * after the primary season.
