Giuliani to run for Governor
July 18, 2003 -- RUDY Giuliani has told close friends he's decided to run for governor in 2006, sources say, and he's started making appearances around the state to solidify his support among the Republican Party faithful.

The former mayor is planning to host a fund-raiser for Dan Donovan, the former chief of staff for Staten Island Borough President Guy Molinari, who is running for Staten Island district attorney.

Mayor Bloomberg is hosting a $1,000-a-head event for Donovan on Tuesday at his Upper East Side townhouse.

Giuliani is also expected at a $500-a-head fund-raiser July 30 for the Republican candidates for the Democratic-controlled Westchester legislature. The invite to the Sky Club in the Met Life building says: "Come to a reception in honor of America's Mayor."

1. Good. I don't want him running against Hillary.
Pataki is damaged goods, Giuliani runs for Governor, and I would say Hillary is now unbeatable in 2006.

3. That's what I asked myself.
Hasn't Gulianni had his day already. I'm sick and tired of hearing about him. He was the mayor, not still is the mayor!
Remember the 41 bullets in Mr. Diallo??? Gulianni defended those officers to the end. Do we really want this man back in public life. NO!!!

He'd be wise to NOT challenge Hillary!!!

4. Good
This is great news for Hillary. Rudy would have been her toughest opponent.

Do any New Yorkers think Eliot Spitzer can defeat Rudy for Governor?

7. Spitzer can win
I think that Eliot Spitzer will be an excellent opponent for Giuliani. This will certainly be a tight race. Also, by 2006 the 9/11 effect will have faded a little bit and Giuliani won't be as popular.

5. This is great news
This means he won't run against Schumer in 2004, which means we can put NY back in the safe column.

6. ROFL
Non-Manhatten people hated Guliani more than City peeps, thats just pathetic prognosticating.

Guiliani had the highest negatives in NY's history when he ran for Senate.

8. interesting
but Senator Schumer, my senator, is contemplating a gubernatorial run in 06 also. if he runs against spitzer that would be a brutal primary. I think that I would vote for Spitzer though.
