Dean Joins Kerry in Seeking Rumsfeld Resignation
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic presidential hopeful Howard Dean called on Friday for Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to resign, citing a "pattern of deception" in his statements on Iraq and a failure to plan for the postwar period.

Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry called on Thursday for Rumsfeld to step down, saying he proceeded in Iraq "in an arrogant, inappropriate way that has frankly put America at jeopardy."

Dean, the former governor of Vermont, also said Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz should resign and announced he was starting a national petition drive on the Internet to demonstrate support for their resignations.

Republican National Committee spokeswoman Christine Iverson said Dean and Kerry were "playing a game of political copy cat. If John Kerry calls for one administration official to resign, Howard Dean has to call for two."

1. That Dean... always following Kerry
That is just a joke. I think they both have a point and it doesn't matter WHO calls for Rummy's resignation, just so long as the call is made.

6. Only one poll really matters...
... and if I'm not mistaken, we still have a while to go.

I have nothing against Dean, I have nothing against Clark, but I've thrown my support behind Kerry. It is not constructive to elevate Kerry by disparaging the other candidates unnecessarily, not in THIS race. Not for any candidate.

10. Yep.
But it's going to be that way until the "real" poll is taken. Otherwise this place would get boring, quick. I think that most of the back-and-forth is in the spirit of well-intended fun. If not, there's always the "ignore" function. This place will look completely different in June. Trust me.

11. No one said Dean was copying Kerry. Why make a

snide comment about Kerry just because he called for Rumsfeld's resignation before Dean did?

Good on Kerry for saying it.

Good on Dean for saying it.

14. I agree
Dean called on members of the Bush admin to resign for lying a couple months ago.

Now Kerry names Rumsfield in particular and Dean follows.

How do any of us lose by this? I want to see all the candidates jump on this bandwagon, I don't care who's driving it.

See, Kerry only speaks 4 languages, but, his wife, who once worked at the UN, speaks 5 fluently.

4. Good, very good. Rumsfeld is a grand target.
He has done much of the PR dirty work for the Bush Administration, and I couldn't think of a better place to start among the crooks. Our motivations against the radicals in the Bush Administration must be specific and focused. Rumsfeld has a history of deception; it must be repeated loud and clear if there is to be success.

7. I agree
It doesn't matter who's copying who (IF there's any copying going on at all). Hell, hopefully all 10 candidates will jump on this bandwagon. Everyone in America should want Rumsfeld's head on a stick (I mean, if we can't have Bush's, that is).

Check out what CodePink is doing this Sunday at the International "End the Occupation" march in L.A. - they're making a huge "pink slip" that says: "Rumsfeld, You're Dishonorably Discharged!"

8. Honestly
I got over the whole elitist "I was there first" thing back in college listening to Nirvana. After awhile, you realize you just want to listen to good music.

I'm thrilled that we have 10 candidates whacking Bush on a daily basis - and now Dr. Strangelove, as well!

13. They are spinning this to lessen the impact.
Edited on Fri Sep-26-03 08:20 PM by blm
Dean should have just held back on this because now the Bushies can spin it to make it seem more political than serious. It should have been left to people like Biden, Levin, Harkin, Murtha, et al...to back Kerry up.
