My Kerry Fundraising Letter: Feel Free to Copy and Email to Your Friends
Dear Friends-

Join me in supporting Senator John F. Kerry for President. With a little over 24 hours left before the crucial third quarter fundraising deadline we need to give all that we can to help John Kerry become the next President of the United States. Click here https://contribute.johnkerry.com/index.html?source_code=00010073 to contribute now.

If you support a clean environment, a more peaceful world and jobs for all Americans John Kerry is your man.

In a recent interview with the environmental issues related Grist Magazine Kerry spoke about his record on the environment.

"This fight is such a part of who I am; it's not just an issue on my resume. I think I have the longest, strongest, clearest, most accomplished record on the environment of any of the candidates running. I began in 1970 when I spoke at Earth Day. I was chairman of Earth Day New England in 1990. I chaired a governor's task force on acid rain when I was a lieutenant governor and we developed a national platform for acid rain. I've been chairman of the Oceans and Environment Subcommittee of the Commerce Committee. I've rewritten our fisheries laws, our marine mammal protection laws, our plastic pollution laws, our flood insurance protection laws, our coastal-zone management laws. I've lead on tuna/dolphin safety issues, on banning driftnet fishing. I've been to all the major conferences -- Rio, Buenos Aires, Kyoto, The Hague -- on global warming. I led the fight to stop Newt Gingrich from attacking the Clean Air and Clean Water acts in 1996, and I've led the effort in the Senate to stop the drilling in the Arctic wildlife refuge. I put together the first-ever sustainable development conference in Asia. I am proud of my record of accomplishment on the environment.

I would never walk away from this issue, and the environmental community can make a statement by joining me. I've been building my record for 19 years. It's a central premise of my career and who I am as a person and I'm not about to walk away from it."

And in a speech on June 13, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa Kerry spoke of a “New Manhattan Project” to create alternative forms of energy and to sever our reliance on middle east oil within a decade.

"Terrorism is the new Fascism, the new Communism, the new totalitarianism - a grave and global threat to our values and our way of life. We can defeat it; we must defeat it; and we will defeat it; but we need more than hard words and powerful weaponry. In a different direction, in a different way, we need to reach as high as Roosevelt reached - with a new national initiative on the scale of the Manhattan Project to harness our thinking and our technology - this time, not to create a new kind of bomb, but to develop new forms of energy that will at long last make America more energy independent.

So I have come here today to set out a strategy for greater energy independence - so that within a decade, this nation will no longer have to rely on Mideast oil. And in achieving that new form of freedom for America, we can at the same time clean the environment and create new jobs for half a million Americans.

With sixty-five percent of the world's oil reserves in Middle East, our over-reliance on oil presents a real threat to national security. We can unleash the spirit of American ingenuity to meet this challenge. My strategy calls for new investments in research, new incentives for companies and consumers, new partnership across the old dividing lines, and higher standards of energy efficiency for both business and government to meet. We can create Americans jobs and confront the dangers to our environment at the same time as we make this nation safer, stronger, and more secure."

1. Thanks! Did you see that Stephen Stills supports Kerry, too?
