1. There is some good news hidden in that poll
Fingerhut has 30 percent of the electorate, even with only 52 percent knowing who he is. However, I believe it will be a very difficult race. Unless Fingerhut can pull a Maria Cantwell (a one-term representative defeats an incumbent senator), Voinovich will win a second term.

3. Something that might not necessarily help Fingerhut

Do a search on him on the site above. I don't like this because I would rather leave my ballot blank rather than vote for somebody that wants to be a Republican.

5. Oh Heaven Forbid!
He isn't Barbara Lee or Maxine Waters! Heaven forbid that he is running for a statewide office in a place that isn't likle Berkeley, CA!

But I forgot this is DU, where only those on the very far left can be considered "true Democrats".

6. I'm with Carlos
Look at the Ohio Poll I posted on the presidential race. I have serious doubts whether we'll carry OH in 2004 presidentially...let alone senatorially.

9. That's no surprise...
If were were to carry it in 2004, it would mean that Dems. would win in a blowout.

15. I disagree
It was one of the closest states in 2000. * beat the combined Gore/Nader total by less than 2%. It's very much in play, especially if we can maximize turnout in Cleveland.

16. Cleveland you say, I know a certain man
*points to avatar* lol here we are. Also DK despite the belief from some that he is a big ally of Nader, he may probably get along with Ralph and agrees with him on a lot of issues, BUT in 2000 Dennis Kucinich worked hard for Al Gore. I think youre right BB Ohio could go places. Imagine Dennis running for president and John Glenn campaigning for him. That would be awesome. Glenn hasnt endorsed anyone but former democratic senator Messlueum* pardon my spelling endorsed his name sake Howard Dean. LOL I read like an article dont I. Go Kucinich! :)

10. Ok, now you tell me what's so "far left" about not wanting to be
Edited on Sun Oct-05-03 01:17 PM by lcordero
trampled into the ground by big business, energy and pharmaceutical companies?
What is so "far left" about not wanting to work 20 hours a day just to pay rent on a studio apartment?
What is so "far left" about wanting to be heard and represented in the government?

On edit: what is so "far left" about wanting to work to get ahead rather than to fall behind? <--- even you have to be able to identify with this question.

7. This is going to be a tough race
Hopefully Fingerhut can make it somewhat competetive. The rule in Ohio politics seems to be: If you want to win you have to lose once.

The OH Democratic Party is in very bad shape right now. It will be a miracle if Fingerhut can get more than 40% of the vote. I hope that he does so maybe he can use it as a credible showing for a future contest.

13. Fingerhut has lost before
In 1994, in a House run.

I think that Fingerhut'll make this closer than we can see now. If Democrats start making a dent in Ohio for the presidential race, we could take this in a squeeker.

11. Springer Dropped Out to Consider Running For Gov. in 2006
Or so I hear. Hey, if Jessie Ventura can do it in Minnesota, and Arnold Schwarzenegger can run in California, then why not Jerry Springer in Ohio? I think he would find much more support for a gubernatorial run than for a senate race.

Hopefully, he plans to help rebuild the Democratic Party in Ohio as well. I've heard that he has given significant contributions to many of the Dems running for office right now. We can use all of the help that we can get.

Too bad Gov. Bob Taft can't run again. Springer would probably hand his ass to him.
