Kucinich promises 'a workers' White House'

DES MOINES --- To the audience at the Iowa Federation of Labor's first presidential forum of the year, Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich was putting on a table-pounding show of union solidarity.

Having only recently introduced himself to Iowa Democrats, the presidential hopeful was making a strong first impression on the union leadership. He held up his membership card for the Camera Operators Union and declared he would make the White House "the address of Workers Local No. 1."

Speaking louder and faster than any other candidate in attendance, he shouted, "This election is about your right to have a government that you can call your own --- a people's president. A workers' White House!"

Iowa Federation of Labor President Mark Smith, sitting behind the podium, could see that more than union spirit was driving Kucinich's almost manic performance. After learning the Adventureland Inn was ill-equipped to download and print his speech, Kucinich had perched his laptop computer on the podium.

can be called a mistake.
You can call it a move that makes it hard for him to be elected by the people who don't realize that voting for the right wing is voting against themselves.

Even though I agree with you that Dennis will probably not get anywhere near the nomination, the fact that his voice is there, loud and clear is a positive thing in itself, and I am glad he is not compromising for reasons of electability.

Because clearly that is what the rhetoric sounds more like.

Too bad it doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of getting through to the masses.

I think that non-communists can agree that the working class is the most important class in the country--the workers produce everything. FDR knew that and won. I think that class struggle is a reality and we need to seize the initiative. The right is "proletarianizing" the masses in any event.

Or at least not on one level.

If this were France or another country with runoff elections, Kucinich would probably be a good choice. We need a workers' message. Can't be stressed too much.

How many jobs have been out-sourced overseas in the past year alone?

How many people are stuck working at WalMart, the nation's largest employer,at low wages and unable to purchase the health benefits?

WE NEED A WORKERS' WHITE HOUSE BADLY.SOMEONE WHO WILL PUT WORKERS' CONCERNS AND GOOD JOBS FIRST, instead of last, after "balancing the budget," or keeping up "defense" spending at the current astronomical level.

Let's get the priorities straight: our people are our greatest asset.

I think with the economy and the job losses, this is exactly what will ring bells with people across all division lines. The best thing is that when Dennis says it...he means it. :)

a poison-pen job, though not always easy to tell which. When a writer mentions the Cleveland 'bankruptcy' (it wasn't) while not mentioning (a) that the city was already in debt when Dennis was elected.
(b) that the debt was the result, according to NRC investigators, of the owners of the for-profit power company sabotaging Muny Light
(c) that Dennis was elected on his promise not to sacrifice Muny Light
(d) that the bank which refused to refinance the city's debt was in bed with the bad guys
(e) that when it finally dawned on people, 15 years later, that he had saved Clevelanders over $200M and counting, the city council gave him a vote of thanks for his foresight and courage.

...when these things are missed out, then we know there's something wrong.

Any other candidate would have "gestures." For Kucinich, it's somehow wild. Anyone else remember Bobby Kennedy and his gestures?
