1. distorting the truth doesn't make your candidate any more popular
477,102 people have signed up for the Dean campaign.

almost 127,000 have signed up for Dean MeetUps.

the #s you posted respresent less than 1% of Dean's supporters.

3. At least 25% of your beloved 450,000 are people who support
other candidates and are signed up for Dean campaign updates. Nearly every Kerry supporter I know is also signed up on Dean's site. I am myself and it's not because I intend on voting for Dean in my primary.

6.  if all Kerry's supporters have signed up at Dean's site than…
I guess the number drops from 477,102 to 477,083.

8. Maybe a tribute?
To Dean's innovation in running a campaign like no other?

Or a complaint that the same information about other candidates isn't available?

Or have you even thought of that...

7. Sorry, DJ. Those numbers aren't just supporters ...
they're people who have noticed a small (out of the way) button on the blog that takes you to a pledge to vote for Dean in your primary or caucus. It's never been publicized except an occasional blog plug and has only been up a few days. Since nearly half of Dean's 450,000 supporters at the end of Q3 donated to his campaign, I'd say your idea that most of the signups are casual is WAY off the mark. There's never been a response rate anywhere near as high as this in politics or marketing. NEVER. It's unheard of. And it's as high this past quarter, or higher, than it was in Q2 when it might have been a fluke. Nope. This is the real deal, DJ.

9. Well this is silly
Dean is popular, especially with people who are joiners and inclined to go for 'Meetups' in the first place. Kerry people are workhorses who have better things to do than attend pep rallies. It's just a difference in personality types, that's all.

you sound like a Republican trying to rationalize why Bush's re-elect #s are so low by saying it's because Democrats are the only ones home when the pollsters call… Repubs are too busy working.

17. Meetups aren't "rallies"
They are organizational meetings where people plan campaign activities and actually DO work. The meetup in my area is highly organized and the local campaign staffers attend each week. We have an incredibly active Dean Corps and there are things going on constantly. Kerry supporters discounting the power of meetups is a perfect example of why his campaign is all stuffy, dull and lackluster. I know you like the guy, and I'm not begrudging you that, but meetup is an awesome TOOL that Kerry's campaign COULD be utilizing and it appears that he chooses not to. That's just plain dumb.

with those darn facts!

And it was starting out so nicely, too...

I was waiting to hear from DJ how all those CA/NY/WA people managed to get themselves polled in New Hampshire and give Dean such a big lead there!
