Setting the Record Straight( Trippi )
Edited on Thu Oct-23-03 03:03 PM by unfrigginreal
Campaign Manager Joe Trippi issued the following statement today:

BURLINGTON--"Governor Dean's opponents have been attacking him and distorting his positions for months. I suspect this is because they would rather attack than talk about why, with a combined three-quarters of a century in Washington, D.C., they have delivered few real results. When you look at the field of candidates there is a clear contrast between a record of results and a record of rhetoric. As both a doctor and a Governor, Howard Dean's record speaks for itself. He delivered healthcare to thousands with his own hands, provided a prescription drug benefit for seniors and healthcare for children, he increased environmental protections and balanced the budget.

"We know the American people understand the difference between results and rhetoric, and when other candidates distort Governor Dean's record of results--as they have for months--we're going to set the record straight."

As you can see by the headlines below, the other campaigns made a strategic decision to attack Governor Dean after he surged ahead of them in the polls. Below are three pages of headlines on these attacks. Also, click on links to Governor Dean's ads below and see them for yourself.

3. Empty Rhetoric
Edited on Thu Oct-23-03 03:23 PM by DJcairo
Using Federal money to provide health care for Vermonters is commendable, but it is about all Dean has done. His criticsm of WA insiders and even Bush is tired empty rhetoric that he's been spewing forever. When will the guy come up with some new lines? When will he tell us what he would do as President?

If you're a liberal Dean supporter, ask yourself this: Is a balanced budget the end all be all of executive leadership? It seems that's all Dean cares about.

7. As a Dean opponent
ask yourself what Dean did with his balanced budgets in Vermont - where his priorities lay after he got the financial house in order. Did he give everyone big tax cuts? Spend the money frivolously? Or did he use it to try and improve his constituents lives.

His priorities are pretty clear when you see what he did with it. But his philosophy seems to be that a government has to function first before you can get it to do anything for you. Probably pragmatic and true.

5. The Memory Hole
Dean has attacked Gep and Kerry strongest, but has attacked every - and I mean literally EVERY - candidate in the race. He was Clark's ass within 48 hours (and about a week after he leaked that Clark would make a nice VP wink wink). He's called people unelectable, he's LIED about Edwards in at least two major incidents, and has generally run a dirty dirty campaign.

Kerry resisted his staff's pleas to hit back for months, and finally relented.

The big result: Dr. Thinskin can't take as good as he gave.

Why doesn't he say these things to Kerry's face? You know, get alittle mouthy?

I pity the fool!

9. Tell it like it is, Dr. Funk. Dean has attacked, distorted, lied about
all the other candidates. It has been a dirty, opportunistic campaign.
