Rossi answers GOP call to run for governor

By NEIL MODIE
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER

After innumerable rejections, the state Republican Party finally came up with a potent candidate for governor yesterday: state Senate budget Chairman Dino Rossi, the star of the 2003 legislative session.

"We've had 20 years in Olympia of one-party rule, and we're broke and out of work. It's time for a change," the two-term lawmaker from Sammamish said in an interview. Democrats have held the governor's office since defeating Republican Gov. John Spellman in 1984.

As chairman of the Senate Ways and Means Committee, Rossi gained prominence this year by steering a no-new-taxes budget through a divided Legislature. But he said yesterday he might resign his Senate seat to campaign for governor.

I'm actually somewhat closely related to this guy, and I think he's a complete phoney, I am sure that Gregoire will win in a walk...
