1. I'm a great believer in the two-party system.
Democratic and Green.

2. Green for SF Mayor
Having lived in S.F through the 80's and much of the 90's, that's a good move. I hope they run a good campaign. The thing is in S.F. it is extremely unlikely that a Green Party candidate would throw an election to the Republicans. Maybe a Green candidate with good politics can get elected and advance some causes. I can only hope that if one wins they are reality oriented enough to be coalition oriented towards progressive Democrats and allow cross party endorcements for State and Federal elections.

5. It was only a matter of time.
The only question was whether it would occur in the People's Commune of San Francisco, People's Commune of Berkley, People's Commune of Madison or People's Commune of Cambridge. LOL! :P

9. the front-runner Gavin Newsome has 2.5 million war chest
the endorsements of Feinstein, Pelosi, Brown and the entire Democratic establishment and all the major newspapers

He'll walk away with at least 55% of the vote if not more

the progressives in this town can't get their damn act together and come up with one candidate to fight the current machine

I like Gonzales but he doesn't stand a chance

Newsome will do what Brown did to Ammiano last time around--paint him as a leftist and box him in

10. I don't think so
I think Gonzalez is going to win.

the article says the 3rd and 4th place contestants don't like newsome whatsoever, so why should the people who voted for those 2 contestants?

Gonzalez is going to win, trust me.

12. Congratulations. If the Green Party is going to build, this is their
way to do it. I don't particularly care for the Green Party because they could be more effective if they took over the Democatic Party and they know it and don't care. But it'll be interesting to see what happens in San Francisco.

13. Have to say that I disagree with you on that one.

Progressives have been trying to reclaim the Dems for decades, but it's been more and more of a futile effort thanks to the rush to the right. There are fewer Kuciniches and Wellstones backed by the party now, not more.

Personally, I'm not a fan of "big tent" politics so I'd rather fight for election reform in general than fight to reform the DNC. If it wants to be a party of moderates, fine. There's nothing wrong with that so long as the "left" has somewhere else to go.

I just feel we'd be better off with a multitude of parties, clean election financing, ranked voting, and proportional representation.

14. If the Dems don't wise up....
The Green and Libertarian Parties will surge in numbers after this election and then it will strenghten the power base in the Republician party.
If Bush wins in 04...he could groom his brother since his stint in FL is over in 08.

That is what worries me that most

THIS REPUBLIC WAS REBUILT BY THE

BUSH EMPIRE

19. You need the numbers to win a national race and not enough
liberal Democrats will jump. I am furious about the hijacking of my party by right-wingers but I would like to take it back
