How did Indiana vote in 2000? R or D?

5. Always R, unfortunately
I think the last time Indiana went for the Democratic presidential candidate was 1964!

3. That Bloomington race looked scary for a while
It was neck-and-neck when I watched the news eating dinner. Glad to see it come out.

My hometown (Terre Haute) was never in doubt - they have had nothing but Dem mayors since I've been alive.

7. You can always (okay, usually) trust Bloomington!
The Republican candidates (Prall and the council contenders) had been advertising hugely for months--billboards, flyers, cars done up with logos; plus, there was a very minor election fraud scandal (Republican activists getting fraternity members to perjure themselves on absentee ballot applications; to be fair, the Republican candidate for clerk, an IU student, was very publicly critical of this ploy). No one does that unless they know they're in trouble.

And they were. Democratic mayor (again), Democratic clerk (again), a 7-2 Democratic council (again). B'ton comes through!

4. There's been an achingly slow shift...
In Indiana over time...but I think the day is coming when Indiana will fall into the Democratic column reliably in presidential elections.

A lot of them are centrist Democrats...Evan Bayh leading the charge...but they are Democrats!!
