Washington, D.C.) The first gay African American was elected mayor of a US city, gay candidates were shut out in San Francisco's mayoralty race, and an Ohio town voted to create a partner registry as Americans in many parts of the country went to the polls Tuesday.

In an historic victory voters in Cleveland Heights, Ohio voted overwhelmingly in favor of establishing a domestic partner registry.

While domestic partner registries exist in more than 60 localities across the country, Tuesday's vote marked the first time a domestic partner registry - or any other pro-gay measure - has been adopted through a ballot initiative said a jubilant Matt Foreman, the executive director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force

in non partisan office the gay backed black gay candidate Ron Odem won along with at least 1 gay candidate for city council, a third gay backed candidate came in 3rd and will likely be appointed to the city council seat vacated by Odem.The democraphic has changed here, and now to find a candidate who can whittle away at Mary Bono's hold on up to 50% of the gay vote in Ca.45 CD.
In San Francisco, Wille Brown's handpicked heir apparent, who campaigned on a'sweep panhandlers from the scene'platform faces a run off with green party candidate Matt Gonzalez.

Two towns over from where I grew up!

Gay bishop AND domestic partnerships in Cleveland Heights.

It's been a good year.
