Dean Meetup Was Great Last Night! - I'm So Jazzed!
We have a small Meetup where I am in Illinois, compared with many others - but we had 5 new people! One was a recovering Republican, and another had never participated in a campaign before (lucky for us she's a notary, so it will be esay to have our campaign petitions notarized)

We wrote letters to Iowa - and mailed off a bundle after the Meetup. We discussed the campaign financing issue. There wasn't consensus on the issue, but consensus that we should all participate, and it was outstanding to be asked to participate. And we set up a Saturday to do door-to-door petitioning for the primary ballot here in Illinois. I got chosen to lead that portion as I was the only one there a veteran of door-to-door work.

All were familiar with the Confederate flag issue, but it seemed to have almost zero impact other than to understand what Dr. Dean is trying to do. I read the Cooper Union speech Dean made last night, and it was great - exactly what I had been saying about this issue - he made a clumsy start to the conversation, but it was a start, and the conversation will be difficult, but so necessary, just as Bill Clinton always told us in talking about race.

We have some people (including me) already signed up to go to Iowa in January and more that are seriously considering it.

The best thing about Meetup - I've been going for 4 months now, and it is truly outstanding to get to have this much participation in politics with real everyday people month after month. So very very cool! - regardless of which candidate you support!

The irony of ironies yesterday is when I got off the Interstate on my way home from work, I drive down the Main St. of here, and I was driving behind a pickup truck, with Illinois license plate, that had a Confederate flag sticker.

2. Went to my first Meetup last night.
I got some addresses to write to people in Iowa. Got my petition sheets. Talked some trash about shrub. It was a good meeting. Illinois is going to be a Dean State.

5. Glad to hear it!
Ours went well, too! Lots of new faces and people determined to keep plugging away for Dean.

We wrote a lot of letters to our adopted county in New Hampshire too.

Overall, a great experience with a lot of regular Americans who want to do something positive for our country.

6. Thank you for sharing
we had an awesome meetup too and we are back to writing letters in Iowa and New Hampshire as well as doing visibility events for Dean in Madison. We are also going to help out at a food pantry as part of our community activities.

7. I love the public service activities of Dean suppoters...
Something that really does seem to set us apart from many other political campaigns present and past.

Good works are good politics!
