Republicans for Dean , saith the media
One of the constant themes of pundits and non-Dean supporters (and Karl Rove) is that Republicans want Howard Dean as the Democratic nominee. Howard Fineman repeats this notion in this article.

Here’s the way things stack up now,” he said. “The Republicans in the White House want Howard Dean to win the nomination. The Democrats in Washington want Dick Gephardt or John Kerry or even Wes Clark to win the nomination.

I've even heard that they fear Gephardt, which is absurd on more levels than I can express.

From my vantage point, I have observed that the White House never tells you anything remotely connected to reality, and telling us who they would truly fear or welcome is the last thing that this strategy obsessed WH would ever do.

If they tell you that there are WMD's in Iraq, then of course they don't exist. If they tell you that the majority of the benefits from the tax cuts go to the middle class, then of course they go to the rich......and if they tell you that they want to go toe to toe with Howard Dean, then you know that he scares the hell out of them.

And why wouldn't he? He has proven to be the best fundraiser that the Democrats have ever seen, he has transformed himself from an asterisk to frontrunner, and he has built a grassroots structure that is the envy of the political world. He showed a willingness to deliver body blows to Bush when the the rest of the Democratic herd was cowed into submission.

While the rest of the Democratic field stumbles about, Dean raises more money and nails down key labor endorsements, and the reason that these endorsements (which had been considered in the bag for Gephardt) were given to Dean was that the rank and file were so incredibly excited by Dean that their leadership had no other choice.

Yeah, this is the guy that the Republicans want.

2. FYI, Republicans for Dean on the web......
Here is a link and a quote.

http://atlblogs.com/republicansfordean/

Why should Republicans back a Democrat like Dean? Isn't he too far to the Left? Not really. He backs many ideals that we Republicans cherish (or used to cherish) such as fiscal responsibility. If you want to become part of the Republicans for Dean community, please e-mail me at editor@moderaterepublican.ne

5. Bush voters hoping to scare Democrats......
They should also have a "Please don't nominate Gephardt, we fear him" poster.

4. Hard to argue against this logic:
If they tell you that there are WMD's in Iraq, then of course they don't exist. If they tell you that the majority of the benefits from the tax cuts go to the middle class, then of course they go to the rich......and if they tell you that they want to go toe to toe with Howard Dean, then you know that he scares the hell out of them.

That logistical theorem has yet to fail me.

8. If you had told me that we could have an administration that never.....
told the truth, and was totally populated with religous zealots,I would not have believed it.

"The Handmaid's tale" by Margaret Atwood seemed so incredibly extreme when I read it in the 1980's.....We are closer to that reality than I ever would have dreamed.

13. Kerry went 'toe to toe' with Dean. Bush should call Kerry to consult on
this one. 'John, this is Chimpy. I'm thinking I want a little of this Howard Dean character. What about it?????' '(Click)'

17. "Well, first Chimpy,
you take an eight year-old quote and then you distort it. Then you demagogue that distortion until it becomes conventional wisdom. Then you accuse him of being angry. It'll work better for you than it did for me because the only anger he's shown in public has been directed at you. Good luck George, it didn't work for me."(Click)

11. I'm not sure that I understand your reaction.....
to my post. My point is that the Republican leadership is afraid of Dean and they are only pretending to want him as their opponent.

15. National poll.
Interesting, but essentially as meaningless as teats on a boar hog, since we elect our president on a state-by-state basis.
