Latest from Kucinich: Vouchers Are No Solution
"Vouchers are no solution for poor students, no solution for education in America. The citizens of the District of Columbia know this, and the Republicans who are seeking to push through a vouchers plan without open debate know it too. Vouchers take money away from many students to provide it to a few. This is not the answer. The solution is to take money away from a bloated Pentagon budget, from President Bush's tax cuts for the extremely wealthy, and from an occupation of Iraq that needs to be ended, and invest that money in public education. As President, I will lead the fight to improve public schools, and oppose alternatives that divert attention, energy, and resources from efforts to reduce class size, enhance teacher quality, and provide every student with books, computers, and safe and orderly schools. I will at the same time work to provide the District of Columbia with statehood and full voting representation in Congress so that the citizens of DC become full citizens able to defeat proposals like this one through the democratic process."

1. Thanks red
Theres plenty of reasons why I like him but he talks a lot I know about community. When I had the joy of seeing him and meeting him that night, Dennis talked about the local DC hospital that was closed down, and how the city of Cleveland worked to save theirs, he got much applause for what he said that night. I think hes right on this issue, I dont like the idea of vouchers.

2. Education is the Great Equalizer
No candidate in America can get it right. Kucinich is presently my favorite candidate, but he's as clueless about education as everyone else.

Why doesn't he say anything about corrupt school officials and teachers unions? What's the use of pumping more money into education if it's only going to be wasted and embezzled? Why doesn't he have anything to say about high-stakes tests, one of contemporary education's greatest abominations?

Kucinich opposes school choice, but does he realize that public schools have already been privatized? There ARE no efforts to reduce clas size or enhance teacher quality. That's all propaganda, spit out by Republicans and Democrats alike.

I realize Democrats are loathe to upset the applecart and upset the corrupt teachers unions that supposedly support them (publicly, at least), but Kucinich suggests statehood for D.C. - which strikes me as a pretty gutsy suggestion. I wish he'd go the extra mile and start speaking the truth about education.

4. If they want to use vouchers, they can do it in Iraq.
Vouchers are a way of simply supplementing private schools and will only save the rich money, while making schools in poorer neighborhoods more destitute than they already are.

5. So True
Vouchers just won't work for a myriad of reasons which I won't go into now, but that I am sure you can find out about on the NEA website.
