President Bush endorses Joe Lieberman
President Bush endorses Joe Lieberman

July 21, 2003

“He’s a good man, and I desperately hope that he can rally the Democrats to bring him the nomination to face me in the general election.”

WASHINGTON — In an unprecedented move, President Bush formally endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Joe Lieberman today. Bush spoke of Lieberman in glowing terms and seemed to challenge liberals to support the 2000 Vice-Presidential candidate.

“Democrats should organize for Joe Lieberman and do anything they can to help him win the nomination against me. He’s a great American, and I really want to see him do well,” the President said.

President Bush also said that the left as a whole should look to Lieberman for the kind of leadership that they desire. “If there’s anyone out there who can inspire disenfranchised liberals to come out and vote against me, it’s Joe Lieberman,” Bush said.

White House officials agreed with the President’s endorsement, but were modest about the success of the President against Joe Lieberman. “I’d really hate to go up against Lieberman in the election,” Political Adviser Karl Rove said. “He could just, uh, really kill us… ha ha ha, I’m sorry, I can’t keep this up,” Rove added as he clutched his stomach, fighting off a cramp from laughing.

7. Lieberman
Yes, Joe Lieberman is a more moderate Democrat. However, look at his voting record. Iraq war aside, it's fairly liberal. He's running to the middle, trying to make himself look electible. It's the same thing that Bill Clinton did in 1992 (though Clinton did it with more success). Politicians have always run toward the middle while actually swinging to their party's ideological ideas once elected. Joe Lieberman, if elected, I am sure will be a force for liberals and will start to nominate mainstream judges (much to the dismay of Orrin Hatch and Jeff Sessions). I am for Kerry or Graham, but I think that if elected, Joe Lieberman will be a billion times better president than Bush.

6. You can tell it's a joke, because Bush sounds coherent.
If those were real Bush quotations, he'd be saying things like, 'Liebergood, er, that Conettacut fella, where my dad has a house, or maybe Maine, he looks like a good guy to run against, good, that is, for the Democrats to run against, I mean, run him against me, of course, in an electoral.'

8. LOL
excellent. But what about the press cleaning up his syntax? I can't believe Bush would give away his real feelings so early in the game.

Of course he is hoping for Lieberman!
