Poll question: Who do you think is the best Senate recruit for the 2004 races?
The Democrats have had some great recruiting successes for the 2004 races. Who do you think was the biggest success?

1. I voted Knowles
He's probably the only Dem candidate that could win in Alaska.

However, it was a hard choice between him and Tenenbaum, with Hoeffel coming in a close third.

5. Why, do you think he can WIN in Oklahoma?
By definition, a great recruit has to be someone who can prevail, not merely make it closer than typical in a given state.

I realize Brad Henry won the gov race, but minus a helpful 3rd party force like Richardson or another bullshit campaign screwup, I don't see how we can pick up an Oklahoma senate seat in a presidential year.

6. Well
In 1984 David Boren (D) won re-election quite comfortably as Reagan was winning 49 states. It is possible.

7. Carson is a tough, talented campaigner
He'll definitely have a race in 2004 and I believe he'll be able to pull it off.

4. The best "recruits" were lost, our southern incumbents
Convincing them to run one more time would have been more significant than persuading anyone on this list. Although I wish nothing for Zell Miller other than a freefall from the highest cloud, a traitorous heartbeat no more.

I voted Knowles, even though I consider him an underdog. It's the perfect opportunity to pick up an unlikely seat and hold it for several cycles.
