Clark stumps for Jewish votes
Hundreds cram into a Delray Beach synagogue to hear retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark talk about his Jewish roots and his support for Israel.

DELRAY BEACH - Connecticut Sen. Joseph Lieberman may have been the sentimental favorite in South Florida after a few thousand butterfly ballots prevented him from becoming vice president in 2000, but he wasn't the presidential candidate drawing a standing-room-only crowd in a synagogue here Monday.

Retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark stepped into Lieberman country, drawing hundreds to hear him talk about his Jewish roots and his support for Israel.

The general, who has come under fire from Lieberman and his other Democratic rivals for his shifting stances on the Iraq war and for his past support for Republicans, left little doubt about his goal when a woman stood up to ask how he can rid the field of the ''spoilers'' who stand between him and the nomination.

1. Clark's credentials
Clark may have jewish credentials but he lacks democratic credentials. As a yellow-dog democrat I could never vote for a man who voted for both Nixon and Reagan and I think that a large section of the democratic base shares that view. But I do give him some credit for taking nine months to decide to run--- it must have been hard figuring out how he was going to shift from a Washington Lobbyist to a Democratic candidate

2. If you would say
"...voted for both Nixon and Reagan" and Clinton (twice) and then Gore, you might have some kind of point, although exactly what still escapes me. Clark was an Independent until registering Democratic. You "forgot" to say that, too.

This is what he did:

"In the summer of 2000, General Clark joined Stephens Group, Inc., and served as a Managing Director for the financial services firm from March, 2001, through February, 2003. He was most recently chairman of Wesley K. Clark & Associates, a strategic advisory and consulting firm. He is the former Chairman of the Board of WaveCrest Laboratories, a firm developing a breakthrough electric propulsion system. He also founded Leadership for America, a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization dedicated to fostering the conversation about America's future."

About Wesley Clark

Shoot him.

3. Let me explain what a "yellow dog Democrat" actually is
It's an oxymoron to say "As a yellow-dog democrat (sic) I could never vote for a man who..."

Yellow dog Democrats are people who'll vote for anybody--even a yella dog--so long as the candidate is a Democrat. Is Clark a Democrat? Hmmm, let's see...

1. voted for Clinton, then Clinton, then Gore.
2. opposed the war
3. favors abortion rights
4. opposes trickle down economics
5. favors job stimulus package
6. supports hand gun and assault gun controls
7. wants to balance the budget
8. opposes tax giveaways to the wealthy
9. wants to support small business start ups

So what is the substance of your beef with Clark? Ah, yes... he once said something nice about George Bush, he served in the army, and FIFTEEN YEARS AGO he voted for a Republican. Uh, huh.

4. Get a More Tired Argument
"Yellow Dog Democrats" are going to give Bush another 4 years. Wake the F#%K up. A four-star general, southern boy and DEMOCRAT is nothing less than a gift from God.

5. "Gift from God"
My daughter has started teasing me about my opinions on Clark--she's been referring to him as "Jesus Clark" and "General Massiah". What a little smart-assed 13 year old. But I'm going to get even by voting for George Bush and passing a massive governmental debt and a ruined environment on to her.

11. Your post just cracked me up.
I loved this statement: "But I'm going to get even by voting for George Bush and passing a massive governmental debt and a ruined environment on to her." LOL I haven't laughed that loud in a long time. :) Thanks! :bounce:

7. Clark following the strategy of a jackal
Pick off the weak establishment candidates -- Lieberman, Edwards, Kerry, and Gephardt -- hoping it will bolster him to take on the Cheetah from Burlington, VT, but the Cheetah from Burlington is out hustling all the other candidates, including the general.

I was told Clark was in Connecticut a few days ago, so I guess he thinks Lieberman's support is soft, but that support, like in Mass for Kerry, more likely will translate into support for Dean, who is becoming a major factor in Connecticut as my fellow residents start looking at the Prez race.

8. Interesting thing about cheetahs
They have amazing speed, but they can only maintain it for short distances. Their bursts of speed are so exhausting that a handful of consecutive, unsuccessful chases can result in death.

I don't think the comparison is particularly positive for Dean. Apt, maybe, but not positive.

9. Cheetahs have survived this long, so they must be doing something right
Like most animlas, they learn to pace themselves and use their speed when it's necessary. The ones that don't drop out of the gene pool.

10. A jackal, Lark?
Weak establishment candidates? Kerry and Gephardt supporters will gravitate to Dean?

I'm sure that if the Brit commanders in 1776 were polled, they would describe Washington and his troops as jackals as well. After all, they attacked where the Brits were weak, avoided direct confrontations and wore their enemies down.

If Dean doesn't walk into the convention with the nomination in his hand, he won't leave with it either.
