Hmmm...a fawning private press party for Kerry....
So, the media is annointing Howard Dean, hmmm??

I guess this private party that took place at Al Franken's with Kerry the only candidate present...with so far only fawning reports of Kerry's personal wonderfulness coming out of it...is an example of the press in Dean's pocket?

Why weren't other candidates invited?

Is this another Kerry campaign stunt?

I'm just curious about more of the why it took place...and what the goal of the "meeting" was.

1. Where have you been, one of our very own DUers was there
he gave a report.

Do a search and find the links. Howard Dean can do the exact same thing, invite the press to a luncheon on his behalf as well. No need to get in a tizzy.

3. No, but Howard Dean's supporters aren't screaming...
The press hate me! The press hate me!

It seems obvious Kerry has friends in the big bad ole press...

2. Everything is NOT a conspiracy
I think it's called running a campaign for Pete's sake.

5. No...and the press are not monolithic either...
I think it is important to point that out.

Kerry has friends in high journalistic places that can't necessarily be expected to give a neutral report on him...regardless of if they are on DU.

17. Which ones were his "friends" and which ones are journalists
who went there and asked tough questions?

6. Hmmm...so Kerry people are rushing to take back all those "The Press
hate John Kerry" remarks?

And there's no way to get the press to listen to John Kerry. They are just hell bent on sinking his campaign.

Al Franken is THE best-selling Democratic author...and he willingly will hold a private party for Kerry to show himself off.

Yep, John Kerry's failures as a candidate are his own...most definitely not the press

9. But Alterman's article is all about how personally wonderful he is...
Regardless of what happened...it spawned positive press reports.

As I said, just proof the anti-press garbage is whining...and lacking in truth.

12. This is proof Kerry can get key press people to listen when he wants to...
I'm not worried...just annoyed at the whining about the press on one hand...then praising press reports on the other, when those reports come from a private party instead of an analysis of issues or public campaigning.

14. Mass Marketing
It's not just press. It combines a whole lot of things, a whole lot of components. McDonalds doesn't depend on the press to create its image. Dean plopped down campaign offices like a fast food chain, whipped people into a money spending frenzy, and used all available marketing avenues to create the new Dean brand. The anti-war maverick outsider. It's branding. It's made up. It's not real. The media is reporting on the brand, not the issues behind the brand. It's the difference between selling the hamburger and discussing the issue that the hamburger will kill you. It's a McPresident.

19. Yes, you are worried and upset because Kerry
got one over your candidate. :nopity:

We are beseiged by every little thing Dean does - it's our turn.

13. So you don't like the fact that Kerry is a nice guy or that they said
he was a nice guy.

The press has said that Dean was a nice guy and that is why his grass roots support is so strong.

Does that make it all better?

15. You are missing the point
Kerry gets good press, too. So saying "The Media" is annointing Dean is pure BS.

18. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Intermittent press on the issues, mostly bad press on the horserace aspect and you want to compare it to wall to wall coverage and a PRESS PLANE back in June?

21. Sure, I'm willing to compare press relations of the two campaigns
Maybe Kerry needed to do more of this stuff earlier. I guess he isn't a seasoned campaigner.

16. FAWNING? Where The HECK Do You Get Fawning?
What do you even know about the event except what Will Pitt wrote?

Where in Pitt's writing does it say anything about FAWNING?

It sounded like the press memebers that showed up asked tough questions... how is that FAWNING?

Now, let's see the press start talking about the favors Dean did for the Koch Bro's as Governor and how they seeded Dean's Presidential Campaign...
