COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT
The Democratic Senate Press Office is looking for a Media Assistant for the 2004 Legislative Session from January to May. The Communications Assistant for the Colorado Senate Democrats is responsible for a variety of different aspects concerning the operations of the Senate Democrat Media Office. The assistant will be working directly under Matt Moseley the Communications Director. The Communications Assistant must be able to perform various tasks; the following sections describe the daily responsibilities.
CLIPS The press office sends out daily clips from several Colorado newspapers to a wide variety of people. These clips are created via email and are printed off upon request. The Communications Assistant with the help of the House Minority staff creates these clips in the early morning before the session begins. Also, you will be tracking the Internet and the wire for daily clips throughout the day.
NEWS PROGRAMS The office will be taping certain news programs during the day. We record channel 9 News and channel 31 News. The Communications Assistant will review these tapes for any important events, press coverage, and press conferences.
DAILY UPDATES Every afternoon the communications office sends out a bill watch and update to all our Senators and the press. These are created and sent out by 4 p.m. most business days. This update will review what has happened that day in the legislature and what may be coming up in the not to distant future.
TALKING POINTS AND RESEARCH The Media Office works with the Policy Director, Jim Merlino, to provide talking points on all relevant issues. The Communications Assistant must be able to perform research requests and provide help with talking points when needed.
COMMUNICATIONS The media assistant must be able to provide written communications, article placements, op-ed pieces, press releases, media advisories, broadcast media coordination, and press briefings during the session.
