Gwen – home cookin’ – Iffil cooked up a steamin’ pile of anti-Kerry crap
on News Hour tonight. Shorter Iffil with Adam Nagourney:

With Kerry, the girly-man nursing on the teat of his small lead, I’ll ask Adam Nagourney some pertinent questions:

#1. Tell us how manly-man has been George has been more “aggressive” against that wimp Kerry.

#2. Kerry is just such a flip-flopper, isn’t he?

#3. How can that wimp Kerry possibly “push back” against manly-man Bush?

#4. What are the schedules?

#5. How “casual” are they? Because we all know that Bush is comfortable in his good-ole-boy cowboy skin while Kerry is a stuck-up stiff snob. Right?

2. Can't stand Gwen Iffil
Her disgust for Clinton throughout the Republican's despicably unethical impeachment was palpable, as was her disdain for Gore, for no apparent reason throughout the 2000 election. After which she was miles of smiles when BushCo stole the election. She was enthralled with the Republican takover for a long time. I don't care if it's worn off some; that's something I don't forget or forgive.

Since then I only occasionally tune in to that Washington Week junior-high school lunchtable gossipfest. While not as bad as cable news, PBS has sunk as low as the rest of American journalism's craven betrayal of their profession and this country. Even PBS Newshour caved in to nearly unquestioning obsequiesness towards Republicans since the late 1990's when they were threatening to pull PBS funding if they didn't give Repubs a free ride.

And they have. Lehrer led the way. Especially notable are his timid, fawning interviews of SecDef Rummy. There was yet another last night. I keep hoping that Rummy will smash Lehrer in the snout with a rolled-up newspaper when he is asked an even slightly contentious question. It would be the perfect representation of what PBS political journalism has become.

Margaret Warner is little better. I used to like all of them, but not any more.
