New (?) Magazine "American Conservative" is anti-Bush?
Just got a subscription offer for a magazine called "American Conservative" -- it has one of those four page subscription letters outlining what they're about. Not sure what prompted me to open it, but it's kind of interesting in that it's an ANTI-NEOCON magazine for what they call "true conservatives." It deals with the fiscal irresponsibility, the tragic fraud of Iraq, the environmental nightmares, and the other messes Bush has created or made worse.

Not shilling for these guys, but it MIGHT be a good thing to send to a right-wing family member or someone worth saving who won't believe "the liberal media" but might read something called "American Conservative." Maybe it will help them see the light that Bush is not a conservative and is rapidly doing more to destroy this country and the world than any terrorist could ever hope to do.

3. I'm sure I'll be flamed for this one, and I welcome it
but there was a time when there were "good" Republicans.

Recall George McGovern telling Randi Rhodes a couple of weeks ago about the good ol' days when he and Bob Dole would partner on progressive legislation, they would get it passed, and they'd send it up to Nixon, of all people, and he would sign it.

I've never been a Republican, but I have a strong hope that the "good" Republicans and the real conservatives will some day rescue their party from the apolcalyptics, the religious, the neo-cons, the thieves.

Freepers, are you reading? Are you one of the good Republicans? What happened to your party? Will you ever reclaim conservativism? Will you ever recapture true Republicanism? Time to get busy.

4. You're right...

There was a time when BOTH parties more often than not acted in the interests of the country -- different ways of approaching problems, to be sure, but for the most part, they knew that promoting the LONG TERM health of the country was their duty, and that things would keep getting better if we played to this country's tremendous strengths.

The Bush Administration acts ONLY in their own self-interest to exploit and plunder what this country has to offer, in the name of corporations, personal wealth, and personal vendetta. Embodied by Gingrich and even Reagan, it has gotten exponentially worse in the past 3 years. Virtually every regulatory head is a former lobbyist for the industry they are supposed to be regulating.

I hope the "true conservatives" will see past the Bush whitewash of "patriotism in a time of war" and see what these thugs are REALLY doing to this country and the people of ALL political parties.

6. Yeah, those were the days...
The war with Spain

Manifest Destiny

Adding "Under God" to the pledge of allegiance

Annexing half of Mexico

Genocide against natives

The 'old' conservatives you pine for were actually the 'new' conservatives who didn't last long before being replaced.

7. Pre-Regan

Pre-Regan republicans were people with a different perspective for the betterment of the country(whether we agreed with there methods or not). When Regan initiated the corporate takeover of America,(he achieved Sainthood in the republican party), he turned the federal budget into a feeding troth. Today's republicans are corporate/communist whose's only goal is to accumulate as much money as possible regardless of the cost to the country and it's people.
