2. I'm conflicted...
He's showing his courage, which is good. But he's going to be skewered most likely, which is bad. But he should go on, because he wants to be EVERYONE'S president, which is good. But he might not fare too well in that forum, which is bad. Yikes!

3. Democrats have no reason at all to go
...on Faux News. If only Repubs and the insane showed up, their ratings would be a joke. They thrive on making "non-believers" look foolish.

If the Blotchy Bastard of Bloviation wants to say "Kerry was afraid" let him. Kerry can make some smart-ass comment like, "If I wanted any of his lip, I'd scrape it off my zipper!" and be done with it.

5. Of course not. However Kerry's far from dumb
and he's got a great track record as a prosecutor. He'll keep his cool and force that choleric little banty rooster O'Liely to lose his.

8. This is true
There could be a positive. If kerry is that secure on his plans to lead the country(which no doubt he is) then he can answer o liely's unfair questions, and prove that idiot wrong.

But even if kerry does do that, than o lielly will most likely pull some shit out of his ass trying make it look like bush had the upper hand.

Either or, i dont' give a shit if o lielly thinks kerry has to come on, i dont think he should.

7. Is it already scheduled?
I think Kerry could hold his own with O'Reilly. That might be the one night I'd watch that show.

10. Well, Kerry may just give O'Lielly a run for his money.
I was worried about Bush kicking Kerry's butt in the first debate (not because our fearless leader is a great orator or anything, but because I figured Karl Rove trained him to go for the throat) but fortunately, Kerry did a wonderful job and Bush looked like a drooling idiot. I'd LOVE to see O'Lielly looking that way. :)

Welcome to DU, by the way!

11. Sheeet, I could hold my own with O'Lielly and so could my dog.
Kerry doesn't risk anything by going on the show. The O'Lielly regulars have been taught to hate his guts so there isn't much downside. On the flip side, he could actually impress some of them.

On principle, I don't think he should dignify O'Lielly by making an appearance, but I'm no longer second guessing my hero.

O'Lielly responds to flattery and is easily diverted from asking questions as long as he has an opening to talk about himself. O'Lielly is also scared of people who exude confidence and know their stuff, he's the typical schoolyard bully and prefers to pick on those who can't defend themselves.

12. Bad idea on all counts
Presidential candidates shouldn't go on screaming-heads shows. Do we really want to see our man or woman screaming in order to make a point, or being told to "Shut up! shut up! shut up!" ?

Beyond that, Kerry's not verbally quick. His debate with Bush was great partly (or even largely) because the timer gave him reason to be concise and kept him moving along briskly.

Just not a good combination.

Going on Jon Stewart's Daily Show, though, that was good. Jon Stewart even had Archbishop Desmond Tutu on last night, which was absolutely amazing -- who's next? The Dalai Lama?

13. I honestly don't know if it's a good idea...
... or not. But, I think O'Reilly, like so many bullies, really pulls out the stops on those he perceives as weak (think back to the Jeremy Glick interview).

He might try to make points on Kerry, but I doubt there would be any of the "shut up!, just shut up!" routine. Kerry, with a little research, would rightly see O'Reilly as the media equivalent of Joe McCarthy (whom I think he most closely resembles in technique), and could probably dispatch him in short order.

O'Reilly is loud, not smart.

15. O'rielly doesn't have to courage to grill the big fish...
The people he berates are the Jeremy Glicks, the Paul Krugmans, the people who either don't have the aura of celebrity or training in political debates. He also likes to beat up on smaller people who are intimidated by his large frame. John Kerry would walk in there towering over O'rielly both in height and stature; O'rielly would be too intimidated to use his usual puffed up blow hard routine. It won't be fair and it won't be balanced, but I think Kerry can take O'rielly. Hell, Alec Baldwin had him eating out of his hand,
