1/3/05: It's Two Months Since I Watched Cable or Network News
and I feel great!

No Tweety, no MTP, no Crossfire, no Dan, No Peter no Brokaw (I heard he finally quit. Good!). No Faux for at least 4 years.

I get my news from DU...well, DU and the links to all the great news sources on DU. I check out Smirking Chimp, Bartcop, BuzzFlash, Daily Howler, the local press, Le Monde, BBC, LA Times, SF Chronicle and a few others.

I used to be a news junkie, but guess what? There's no news in the MSM! It's all propaganda! It's Lacy this, Michael that, new movies & TV shows, 24/7 bush adulation and RW talking points. Who needs it?

I'm just as informed as before but without the aggravation. The MSM is NOT going to change.

Free yourselves. You owe it to yourself. You'll be glad you did.

1. Welcome to the club!
It's great isn't it? I've gone without for over a year now, and thanks to places like buzzflash, DU, and Air America, I'm way more informed than the average citizen. I keep telling all the people that keep complaining about corporate news, STOP WATCHING! It's the only thing that's ever going to make them change. And I used to work for ABC, so I know what I'm talking about.

7. It's been over 2 months for me, too!
Actually, for the last year, it hasn't been much; but post-election, it has been nothing at all. I'm better informed than my friends that watch MSM and the cable/satellite news channels. I check the sites listed above. It's amazing - the feeling - isn't it?

It's amazing how poisonous our media has become. It is literally bad for our health. It's bad for ours because it makes us so angry, and it's bad for the rest of America because it keeps them in a constant state of fear and aggression. Seriously, this should be our new campaign, simply stop watching corporate media. If every liberal in the nation simply turned it off and threw their support to Air America and other progressive news outlets, you better believe all the networks would take notice. They've become they way they have because of the success of Fox. But Fox is nothing. A huge portion of their audience is liberals who tune in because they want to know what the enemy is doing. This is a terrible mistake. All it does is give them ratings and legitimacy. Turn them off. Tune them out. 58.5 million of us voted for John Kerry (and those are the official numbers, the real numbers are no doubt higher). We have the power to leave Fox in the dust if we just stop playing their game.

4. I'm with you!
I stopped right after the election. It's all crap. I've decided I'd much rather read my news than have someone read it to me.

I do make an exception for John Stewart, but I've even scaled back on him.

Besides, the sound of B#sh's voice drives me up the wall. Can't stand it.

5. Yes, Du is my news also.
We have cut back on our dish network package...No Fox...but them we lost MSNBC as well. I used to like the Keith Olberman, but I don't think I have been missing anything much with him. Even his bloggerman site is failing.

8. I do make an exception for Jon Stewart ...
Edited on Tue Jan-04-05 01:31 AM by Maat
but I walk out when he has a right-winger on. No interest in hearing what they have to say - except perhaps scanning it in print.

My white male cat, Snowball, did just subscribe to the Dobson AFA e-mail alert, just for laughs. I've always suspected that guy is a Rethug - he pee'd on my copy of the Nation, and chewed the corner of my Kerry-Edwards sign. He's the perfect cuddly pet, though, so I have to forgive him. He is a neutered-American though.

What I read here about Olbermann has me intrigued. He certainly inspires lots of floaty hearts! :)

12. I haven't quit, but I have cut way back
I watch CSpan's Washington Journal, an hour of CNN before hubby goes to work (he likes to get the weather and headlines), and maybe I tune into if Air America says something is going on. I have watched a bit more news since the tsunami, but after 3 days of having clips replayed instead of reporting, I am pretty much back on the wagon.

14. Tucker Carlson hasn't been in my living room for over two months now
Ditto Michelle Malkin, Ann Coulter, Tony Blankley, Tony Snow, Bill O'Lielly... none of 'em. Am I better off today than I was two months ago? Heh heh heh.
