Introducing a new name for the lapdog corporate media: THE POODLE PRESS!
I've been dissatisfied with the term "corporate media" for a lot of reasons. And MSM, for "mainstream media" is even worse. It recently occurred to me that calling them something more in line with what they REALLY are is a good idea all around as well as being a lot more satisfying:

The Poodle Press!

There are lots of advantages, and I'm sure you will think of MORE:

  1. It conveys the fawning slavishness of these despicable people. The image of a dog on a leash is so very, very appropriate. And just like trained dogs, they perform for rewards!
  2. The image includes the vision of being clipped, shaved and overgroomed to ludicrous extremes to impress a master
  3. The phrase's alliteration is catchy enough to be contagious
  4. We can embellish particularly poodly (and by the way, there's a new adjective for you) hacks with a POODLE SKIRT and give POODLE AWARDS for poodling beyond the call of duty:

And just THINK of all the other poodle image possibilities! Photoshopping poodle haircuts, giving poodle tails, we can have some real fun here!
  5. It excludes those few remaining true journalists who do NOT toe the administration line but publish or broadcast in the corporate media -- they may be corporate but they are NOT poodly!
  6. It is NOT malicious, ugly or violent - how can it be attacked with a serious face?
  7. It builds on the familiarity of Tony Blair being called "Bush's Poodle," and most of all...
  8. It embodies an entire reframing campaign in TWO WORDS! And is it ever overdue!

So let's call them what they really are: THE POODLE PRESS!!!

1. My 110 Pound Dog Dislikes Poodles!
Poodle Puppies is more like it. But, why disgrace a Poodle and place Media Whores on a Poodles level!

2. Woof!
Yea, but the poodle press was all over * and his use of widders & doodie
(widows & duty) in his press conference from hell yesterday.

No mention from the poodles about his, "The oxygen is being sucked from this
room." As he made his exit.

Real Media and Real Love come from ....... Stephanie Miller and that
Keith Fellow ....... LOL

6. I DO enjoy James Walcott - nobody turns a phrase like he does
but I had forgotten about his book title! Maybe it was down there on a latent level?

Thanks!

although standard poodles are a noble breed and mini poodles can be sweet pets, your idea sums it up beautifully for our two word culture

9. Thanks! I will.
I really want this to catch on! I think it has some real possibilities. Hope he agrees when i send it to him.

I agree, this is a slur on poodles, which have a noble heritage as courageous hunting dogs, but the image as it is perceived in our national culture is PERFECT.

7. More on poodles
They used to be working dogs, water dogs, I think. They have now become a dressed up, sissy dog, which I guess really describes our press. I like the concept. You could even send dog biscuits to members of the press who particularly fawn over Bush.

11. Dog biscuits! I love it! We could institute THE BRASS BISCUIT AWARD!!!
The possibilities for non-vicious but utterly on-target commentary and images are endless and very cheering to consider!
