Schumer smacks down Cornyn on Fox News Sunday
My favorite part after Schumer got done kicking his ass all over the studio pointing out how they are trying to fundamentaly change government, the democrats are being very reasonable and have confirmed 204 out of 214 judges - including some pro-life and reading some disturbing quotes from the judges we are holding up, and saying repubs are trying to take away the independence of judges with threats of retribution over their decision. after all that - Cornyn says that the democrats are trying to take away judges independence . . . . huh?!?!?!??!?!?! And I suppose we're the ones that wanted to invade Iraq and we'll be blamed for interfering in the Shiavo case next week. unbelievable!

the point is though, Schumer - as he always does, beat down the republican and made him look like a complete fool.

2. Schummer did not say they had the votes to avoid the 'nuclear option"
when asked by Chris Wallace. I was rather surprized to hear this.

3. He used Rove 101: Don't let anything sit long enough to stick. Immediately

rebound ANY Dem attack on repubs back at the accuser. They take the initial hit of the accusation and bounce it back hard at the Dem, often using the exact verbage of the accuser (like today). Even if there is no sense, proof or logic - even if everyone goes "Huh?"

4. If you live in Michigan, Nancy Skinner on 1310 AM
Edited on Sun Apr-10-05 11:03 AM by ray of light
Had a Republican on her show. He was blaming the Democrats for the "nuclear option" and saying the Democrats were 'obstructionists' and that's why they had to use it. So he says, "Where in the constitution does it say that there has to be 60 votes or you can block the nominations."

So Nancy Skinner read to him ARTICLE TWO of the U.S. CONSTITUTION and he ARGUED with her that it was a LIE put out by Democrats. So she informed him--repeatedly, that only 10 nominees have been turned down by the Democrats, yet HE STILL ARGUED WITH HER. She pointed out how many judicial nominees the Republicans refused for Clinton, and you guessed it...HE STILL ARGUED WITH HER.

What a DUNCE he was! She finally said, "Well, I can see you read your talking points and you're not willing to hear the legitimate information from documented sources..."

I suppose he was an example of what can happen if you drink too much koolaid.

In the meantime, I saw this site that I think is really cool. They were onto the filibuster before it became 'hip' to talk about. They have a great summary of filibusters. They also started a filiblog to inform and inspire action. Here's the info and the link.

Let me take you on a trip to the Nineteenth century when the ships in the oceans transported people and goods far and wide. You are the captain of your ship; you have complete control of your agenda; and nothing but the ocean can prevent you from getting from England to New York. Smell the salty ocean breeze and feel the mind-boggling sense of being the center of the universe and in complete control...

It's Time to Begin the Filiblog!!
Senator Bill Frist is sitting on his nuclear option. The filibuster is in danger. Right now, the future of the filibuster rests in the hands of a few Senators--and, of course, US.

My Letter to the Editor, Let's see if it gets published:

To the Editor:

What does it mean, “The Nuclear Option”?

• Does it mean the Constitution is threatened?
• Does it mean that irreparable harm will come to us?
• Does it mean millions of Americans voices will not be heard in the Senate?
• Does it mean that a majority party can push through any and all legislation no matter how many people oppose it?
• Does it mean that we will become just like the countries we criticize for not having a free and open society?

The answer is: Yes to all of the above. Here’s how it is done: Eliminate the filibuster. People wonder why that is important? I ask you, do you feel that you have fair representation if your Senator wants to argue for or against a particular proposal and they are not allowed to? Certainly not. Yet, that is what is being considered now on Capitol Hill. We have seen the Congress make serious missteps in the past, but if allowed to occur, eliminating the filibuster will be a death knell for a democratic society. What would stop a different majority party from enacting laws that a substantial portion of the population had no option to oppose?

I voted for my Senators to be my voice in the Congress. If that right is taken away from them, then it is being taken away from me. Tell me again, what was President Bush’s Inaugural speech about?

Write or call Senators Bill Frist (R) and Rick Santorum (R) and tell them that you care about the Constitution and are against the “nuclear option”.

Signed,

5. Go, Chuck. When this guy whupped Al D'Amato, I had --
-- a feeling he was a force to be reckoned with.

And Cornyn is no match for Senator Schumer. Cornyn is no match for a plate of bean mesh, for that matter.
