The Jay Marvin Show - AM 760, Boulder, and on a computer near you!
Hey folks!

It has been a few months now, and I have to say that the "Old Jay" is back. As you may know, he was an employee of right-wing station WLS-AM, Chicago, and for several years had to pretend to be a moderate in order to keep his job and medical benefits, and many people still will not forgive him for that. When he left WLS-AM and started his Liberal show on http://www.760thezone.com/ in Boulder, CO, I contacted Jay and asked if he wanted his new show to be archived. Being a Liberal means giving people a second chance, and I was prepared to do that. I had my doubts at first, in spite of archiving him, that Jay would put on real Liberal radio, but he does, and has great guests!

So, Tune him in, or hit his archives or podcasts on http://www.WhiteRoseSociety.org/ and let me know what you think?

And a note to DU Admins; Could we please put Jay's show in the Listen Live section on the Latest page? I think he would be a worthy addition.

Thanks!

-Ben Burch

1. I want to call into Jay's show doing an Eileen Burns imitation
see if he reacts.

If you don't know Eileen, just put on your most saccharine little girl voice and plagiarize every right wing talking point of every other rightie show on WLS.

"Jay, why is it that democrats hate America? Al Gore is wooden and boring, that's why he loves trees." etc etc.

2. Jay would be too much of a gentleman to say on the air...
what he really thinks about Ms. Byrne.

Google up some pictures of her some day; She has a "face for radio".

5. Oh, she doesn't look so bad.
I don't think it's her face that puts her on the radio, it's her lack of any discernble talent. All she does is repeat the talking points of the nationally syndicated shows, and really, where could you get a job with that talent except as the lead in on the reich wing radio station?

Which I took off my dial when Garry Meier left.

7. Roe Conn betrayed his "friend" Gary Meier, or so I am told.
The story I was told goes like this;

Their contracts were up in different months. They had been talking about ditching WLS for another station. WLS refused to let Gary Meier go without a contract until Roe Conn's expired and let him go. When Roe Conn's contract came up, he decided to stay with WLS rather than leaving to a show on another station as he and Gary Meier had agreed upon.

8. I don't think that's true.
I think that they fully intended on staying together and that they simply couldn't decide on the strategy. I forget the amount of money that was offered, but I think that Conn just thought Garry was being crazy to not take it, and it was my impression at the time that it was a bucketload of cash and little assurance they could do better if they held out.

At any rate, it was a situation where the whole was greater than the sum of its parts. Even when one would go on vacation, I thought the show with the remaining one really wasn't that good. I gave ro conn a few weeks and I think I had given up even before it was certain that Meier was never coming back. Too bad. I was a daily listener, my wife liked it even more, and they were at the top of the ratings in the afternoon. WLS basically threw their station out the window, given that they have nothing but right wing nutbags twenty other hours a day.

3. I listen to him every day
Here in Denver, I listen while taking my girls to school. He's doing a great job. I wish he got more national attention.

6. Thank you! I will check him out.
I love this: Being a Liberal means giving people a second chance, and I was prepared to do that.
