Air America: "Bloomberg for Mayor " promos?
Heard this on the Ed Schultz show today, on the NYC affiliate. Don't look now.... but I believe Bloomberg is on the other side.

On the Montel show a few weeks back , I heard a commercial hosted by Glen Beck. Don't rememeber the product. And i don't think it was overtly political. But *Glen Beck*???

What's happening what is this what's going on?

Is there some kind of FCC reg. ( that I've never heard of) that *requires* license holders to accept advertising from any source.... no matter how repellent the source may be to the license holder?

1. Bloomberg is an Independent and Air America needs all the revenue it can get
I would think they would or at least should refuse Glen Beck

3. No. Actually, he's seeking the republican nomination...
... in order to run against the candidate that we Democrats nominate.

wiki:
"Bloomberg is currently seeking the mayoral nominations of the Republican and Independence Parties. Possible Democratic opponents are the City Comptroller, Bill Thompson (already endorsed by the Working Families Party) and Tony Avella, a member of the New York City Council."

2. Nothing to do with Air America
WWRL is the local affiliate and sells it's own ad time; and the Bloomber campaign ( probably rightly) assumes some share of liberals will vote for him. Unless Thompson starts getting him campaign in order (union endorsements won't be enough) his chances aren't going to be much better than Freddy Ferrer's.

4. What *would* be enough.?
>>>Unless Thompson starts getting him campaign in order (union endorsements won't be enough) his chances aren't going to be much better than Freddy Ferrer's.>>>>

Will Zuckerman and Murdoch put him ( Thompson) on the front page of the tabloids with a dunce cap on his head?

5. I have no idea what his campaign proposals are...
...and I've heard him speak. All he's got are "Bloomberg favors the rich" and "Thompson believes in" platitudes so far.
He needs to develop some solid proposals to get attention, and get some ads on the air (yes, Bloomie has more money, but my candidate for City Comptroller has been on the air more than Thompson.

6. He's quite explicit about what should be done about the school system:

Indeed, one couldn't be *more* explicit.

I wonder if this is a refrain that NYC M$M establishment is going to trumpet: "Thompson's not saying anything."

Meanwhile they don't report what he does say. Or bury it.

7. Sorry, but that tells me nothing...
...should Klein be fired and replaced with a new Commissioner in the same structure?

...should the entire Department of Education be eliminated? If so should the Board of Education, which failed before, be resurrected, or replaced with something else?

8. Well, it tells you more than "nothing".

It tells you that he's established a plausible critique of the educational.... umm.... "reforms" of the last 8 years.

According to the campaign website the answers to your questions are ( or seem to be): Yes ( Klein should be fired), Yes ( new chancellor, same structure) No ( DOE should not be eliminated).

Found 'em here:

http://www.thompson2009.com/issues/archive/education/

(This isn't necessarily true of you, but there is a peculiar phenomenon on DU of certain posters straining to find fault with whatever DEM candidate runs against Bloomberg. Happened with Ferrer and happened with Green. What's that all about? It's a *DEM* internet community... isn't it?)

Anyway, this is the MEDIA forum: I still can't figure out why AAR would take Bloomberg's advertising... other than for the obvious reason: the $$$ is good.

But why bother setting yourself up as a "progressive" undertaking?
