Poll: News media's credibility plunges to new low
Survey finds America's crumbling trust in the news media's accuracy hits a 24-year low
By Michael Liedtke, AP Business Writer
On Monday September 14, 2009, 12:20 am EDT

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- The news media's credibility is sagging along with its revenue.

Nearly two-thirds of Americans think the news stories they read, hear and watch are frequently inaccurate, according to a poll released Sunday by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press. That marks the highest level of skepticism recorded since 1985, when this study of public perceptions of the media was first done.

The poll didn't distinguish between Internet bloggers and reporters employed by newspapers and broadcasters, leaving the definition of "news media" up to each individual who was questioned. The survey polled 1,506 adults on the phone in late July.

The survey found that 63 percent of the respondents thought the information they get from the media was often off base. In Pew Research's previous survey, in 2007, 53 percent of the people expressed that doubt about accuracy.

1. this would be useful if there was any chance newspaper & networks owners cared
about their audience.

They would rather go down in flames serving the rich than tell the real news that would also happen to sell papers.

2. Nearly two-thirds of Americans are correct.
What is terrifying is that the other one-third don't realize this.

3. That other one-third are Glenn, Rush, Sean, Bill devotees.
All barely intelligent enough to function. They don't have the brain capacity to think for themselves, so they let others tell them how they feel. It works for them, it's better than using those few available brain cells doing something like thinking...they might lose their autonomic functions!

4. Why? I know. Nonsense Like Glenn Beck.
All one has to do is watch Glenn Beck, and then go out and bomb the cities.

5. whenever M$M report on the President's poll numbers they should be required to report on theirs too.
The confidence in M$M (i don't think most people consider the internet part of "the media") is plummeting and I think the internet has a lot to do with this as people are able to find out all that the Corporate media is NOT telling them. I think (and hope) people are slowly starting to realize that M$M is just delivering the message that their owners and advertizers want to be heard. and that it is quite consistent with the Corporate Lobbyist Party's propaganda.

Tried to recommend but I was too late. Great post.
