Bush is faking letters again
There is an old saying in the Italian community, keep your friends close and your enemies closer. I have been checking out Bush's reelection website.

Lookie what I found, http://www.georgewbush.com/Economy/WriteNewspapers.aspx?AgendaID=2

It locates the newspapers close to you based on your ZIP Code and then all you have to do is point and click to write your letter of support (no dangerous thinking required). It might be interesting to see if some of the following phrases come up in local letters to the Editor (Warning: Viewer Discretion is Advised, cause this is some serious crap):

"President Bush should be commended for his strong leadership on the economy. He has taken bold action to create lasting economic growth"

"The President’s economic growth agenda creates jobs. His economic plan is focused on job creation and helps working families with immediate tax relief. Promoting investment is another critical component in the President’s agenda. Reducing the overall tax burden on small business and eliminating the unfair double tax on dividends spurs investment by individuals and businesses, enabling much needed capital investment and spurring job creation."

Anyway you get the idea, there are also tabs on calling talk radio, but I would think they are just preaching to the choir on that one. Now you know, and if you see one of these fake letters, why not use the Bush page to write a response? I'm just thinking out loud here.

HOW TO STOP GEORGE W. BUSH'S PLAGIARISM DRIVE IN SIX EASY STEPS

The bad news is that the campaign to re-elect George W. Bush has initiated a campaign of Republican-sponsored plagiarism on a scale we've never seen before, backed by a program of unprecedented technological sophistication.

The good news is that we can use Bush's own technology to stop his unethical practice before it gains too much steam. But we have to act fast. As of September 17, 2003, here's what to do.

4. Check again
Looks like the website has removed the astroturf letters and is simply forwarding copies of what the user writes to all the newspapers selected.

Click on my link and then click the Talking Points Tab, you will see this:

President Bush should be commended for his strong leadership on the economy. He has taken bold action to create lasting economic growth.

The President’s economic growth agenda creates jobs. His economic plan is focused on job creation and helps working families with immediate tax relief. Promoting investment is another critical component in the President’s agenda. Reducing the overall tax burden on small business and eliminating the unfair double tax on dividends spurs investment by individuals and businesses, enabling much needed capital investment and spurring job creation.

President Bush understands that we must save Social Security for seniors and for generations to come. His approach preserves the current Social Security system for those at or near retirement while providing new options for young people.

The President’s plan puts money back into the pockets of working Americans. Accelerating already enacted tax cuts will encourage consumer spending by giving 91 million taxpayers an average $1,126 in tax relief this year, immediately injecting billions into the economy. This issue is just one more example of how our President is providing the courageous leadership America needs.

7. A fine idea indeed. Humor works, too.
I've taken the liberty of amending the form letter that you've most likely seen a hundred times. Only a few words have been changed so that it speaks of the truth. See how many differences you can spot. Enjoy!

President Bush should be derided for his weak leadership on the economy. He has taken no action to create lasting economic growth.

The President’s economic agenda creates no jobs. His economic plan is focused on giving immediate tax relief to the richest. Promoting misinformation is another critical component in the President’s agenda. Reducing the overall tax burden on huge corporations and eliminating the "double" tax on the inheritors of entrenched wealth spurs an aristocracy, enabling the upper classes to buy new boats and Humvees, and spurring job creation of housemaids and gardeners, as well as technical jobs in weapons plants and a demand for the "new" accounting required for government contracts.

In short, our leader is a Miserable Failure.

Sincerely,
