In the column below, Media Matters for America will document and correct conservative misinformation in each news cycle. Media Matters for America will monitor cable and broadcast news channels, print media and talk radio, as well as marginal, right-wing websites that often serve as original sources of misinformation for well-known conservative and mainstream media outlets.
FOX's Chavez called Kerry a "communist apologist" -- and then lied about it

Four days after her nationally syndicated column calling Senator John Kerry a "communist apologist" appeared in newspapers and on The Heritage Foundation's website Townhall.com, Linda Chavez, in a May 2 interview with FOX & Friends host Mike Jerrick, claimed that she had not called Kerry a "communist apologist" ...

Koppel reports, Wallace decides

FOX News Sunday host Chris Wallace ended a discussion about ABC's Nightline to announce that next Sunday, May 9, his FOX Broadcasting Network show will provide the "context" Wallace said was lacking when Nightline devoted an entire broadcast to reading the names of the more than 700 U.S. troops who have died in the Iraq war. Wallace's roundtable discussion featured FOX News managing editor and chief Washington correspondent Brit Hume, who previously worked for ABC; Washington Post staff writer Ceci Connolly; NPR senior correspondent Juan Williams; and Weekly Standard editor William Kristol. Only Kristol -- a neo-conservative who was an outspoken proponent of the Iraq war -- strongly criticized ABC's Nightline broadcast. Yet Wallace abruptly broke in ...

WorldNetDaily's Kohn: "evidence" suggests Kerry having an affair with New York Times reporter

Without citing any sources, in a May 1 WorldNetDaily "Exclusive Commentary," author Bob Kohn claimed that "evidence suggests" Senator John Kerry is having an affair with a New York Times reporter. Under the headline "Gray Lady goes to bed with Kerry," Kohn wrote, "Evidence suggests that a New York Times reporter covering the Kerry campaign may be sleeping with the presumptive nominee of the Democrat Party." The "evidence" that Kohn presented is a laundry list of instances he insisted demonstrate bias on the part of The New York Times or instances from which he inferred that the reporter had special access to Senator Kerry. He all but named the reporter by citing specific passages from articles with her byline; then he cited serial fabricator Jayson Blair as a source for his charge that New York Times reporters trade "favorable" stories for sex. For example, Kohn wrote ...

Conservative pundits wrongly claimed Kerry lied about Vietnam decorations

On May 1, two panelists on FOX News Watch asserted that Senator John Kerry has a "credibility" problem over the issue of whether he threw away ribbons or medals at a 1971 anti-Vietnam War rally, when in fact, an official U.S. Navy website, which displays various medals and ribbons under the heading "The United States Military Navy Service Ribbons" seems to confirm that the Navy regards the two war decorations as interchangeable.

3. What a list..............
They're going to have to hire more help to keep up with the lies spewed by the right wing. Maybe this is Bush's job creation program?
These vile pieces of crap need someone to call them of their bullshit. Problem is, it piles up so high and so fast it's hard to keep up. And how many people is this reaching? Certainly not all that listen to these numbskulls. The right wing lunatics' poison will still get through to the masses, but this is a good start. If we could only get the mainstream press off their duffs and do the same thing, then we'd have something. Yeah, like THAT will ever happen!
