Really. Just one.

I've asked this question hundreds of times amongst Reaganites, and never once gotten an answer.

He was just--- "a great President."

He single-handedly ended communism in the Soviet Union, not to mention that the great economy of the Clinton years was all due to Reagan! (sarcasm off)

What exactly did he do? I heard by Insanity that he cut taxes and tripled revenue to the federal government. Of course Insanity did not mention he doubled the national debt. I asked my mom about the Reagan tax cuts and she said she got about 300 bucks. Much like the tax cuts of today.

While the yen hit 262 during Reagan's administration, that was not an all-time figure. (By the way, if the yen is 262, that's a strong dollar.)

Before World War II, a yen was a lot of money, about $5.00, and was decided into smaller units. After postwar inflation, the U.S. occupation forces set the rate at 360 yen to the dollar.

This rate held until about 1972 or 1973, when Japan let its currency float, under pressure from other countries. (The 360/1 rate made Japanese exports incredibly cheap.)

At the time I went to Japan in August 1977, during the Carter administration, the rate was 267 yen to the dollar. However, by the time I left the following year, it was at 180 to the dollar. (Fortunately I had changed all my money at the beginning of my stay and earned extra money in yen by tutoring people in English.)

I recall that the yen was at 250 when I spent the summer of 1985 in Japan. Since then, it has been as low as 90 yen/1.00 and as high as 136 yen/1.00.

Many factors influence exchange rates, and I recall that the Reaganites actually bragged about the strong dollar.
