Bush's revisionist history
Not sure if this has been covered but...

I just came over a story in a Norwegian newspaper about how the White House changed the press release from May 1st.

This is the press release as it stands now:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/05/iraq/20030501-15.html
President Bush Announces Major Combat Operations in Iraq Have Ended

And here is the same press release copied by http://www.waybackmachine.org/ on May 6th:
http://web.archive.org/web/20030506022455/http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/05/iraq/20030501-15.html
President Bush Announces Combat Operations in Iraq Have Ended

There is a significance between "" and "major".

It has to be illegal to alter past press releases?

1. this is EXTREMELY important
The change from 'combat operations....have ended' to 'MAJOR combat operations....have ended' was reported/discussed in DU.

Many did not see it or have forgotten and quote the change.

Every time we discuss this photo op we should point out the change with link.

2. sorry, just checked links.......questions
The web.archive link has 'major combat...' in the text, so it doesn't seem to support the claim that the release was changed.

Simplistic question....how does one use waybackmachine to find the original text???

When I first read about this in DU, I think there was a different link for the original text. Maybe the memoryhole???

4. If I'm not Mistakin', GW re-coined the phrase for these type of People.
Edited on Sat Jan-10-04 01:31 PM by Homer12
He called them, "Revisionist Historians".

But I'll coin a new phrase right now and call GW a, "Bottom-feeding, scum sucking, lying Son-of-a-Bitch!"

5. How can the text be compared?
With a unix workstation, you can easily compare the text of two files, using the diff or compare commands. Does anyone know how to comparte two text files on a PC? I think it is not illegal to change the text of the press release subject. I think tha it IS illegal to change the text of the content of the speech. So that is what needs to be exposed and proved. RadionLeft talks frequently about this, but we need to be able to show exactly where the content was edited.
