Edited on Tue Jul-22-03 10:23 AM by corarose
What is up with this SHIT? They are going to kill their party big time.
Right Wingers are a bunch of crazy people. I think that they all have been released from the nut house and they are the ones running lose in the streets that are dangerous.

1. Durbin
I was watching Durbin on C-Span and I was very impressed with his speech. The reppugs have a way of going after the really good ones.

3. They want Illinois
We are a Democratic State and they want us because they know that they can't win without CA, IL and several other States.

Bloomberg has a rating of 23% how about we start a campaign in NY to recall him?

16. they are
I was in the city last week and saw people handing out flyers to impeach Bloomberg.

I'm not exactly sure if you can impeach a mayor, but I thought the concept was cool.

Bloomberg is toast as soon as his term is up. I hope Clinton runs.

21. Bloomberg's Replacement
While I like Clinton, I doubt he'll run. I've heard Rep. Anthony Weiner (the guy who replaced Chuck Schumer in the House) wants a shot 2005. His seat is majorly Democratic, so we'd hold onto it.

2. As if they could.
Durbin is very popular. I've never been so satisfied with a Senator as I have been with Durbin. He isn't perfect, but he is consistent and does his job admirably.

5. Wish He'd Run for President
I am not an Illinois resident, but I admire Senator Durbin very much. I've watched him over the years, and his positions are more consistently exactly aligned with mine than those of any other Democrat. Why hasn't he ever considered a presidential run?

7. I didn't know
that a senator could be recalled. Can any elected official be recalled at any time? If so, that would create a lot of turmoil in the country. (Notwithstanding the crap we're going through now.)

I really don't agree with these recall issues. They ran and people voted them into office. If you have buyer's remorse, then vote for the other guy next time around. Unless they have done something illegal, I just don't understand these recalls.

They may get the signatures but he would win the (re) election!! I was able to vote for him before I moved; he's a great senator and a true democrat! Maybe that's what the repub are afraid of.

Who are the repugs behind this?

I would assume that the hand of Karl Rove is involved somehow with these recall efforts.

15. nationwide, both parties
yeah Norquist sends out the call and coincidentally some jerk wingnut pathetic local columnist calls Houghton(R, NY) a VETERAN of Korean war, a DINO with the worst sophomoric sneers and jokes that any punkit has ever graced a paper with. Because of his anti-war vote. Because he is not a coward or a fascist rubber stamp. We carved that columnist out a new one. My letter mentioned the timeliness of his attack and Norquist's rally to the Right campaign to get rid of everyone that is decent in government.

And Houghton generally votes for and is loyal to Bush, of course. Norquist and the press toadies. That is the kind of scum you are dealing with when they go after your legitimate Congressmen.

They have to be smacked down hard. Whenever.

12. Republican strategy: Attack you until you're dead.
OF COURSE they'll attempt a recall anywhere that's
possible!

The Republicans have a simple strategy: They will attack you, and
attack you, and attack you again until you're dead. They know that
even if they have only a 10% probability of killing you on any given
attack, after a few dozen attacks, you're probably dead.

The fact that they lost an election doesn't dispirit them. In some
place, they can immediately begin a recall movement (and there are
enough assholes in the world that they can get these things on the
ballot). In other places, they'll just switch to a PR offensive,
knowing they'll have smeared you to death by the next election.

They don't play nice, they attack.

They don't retreat; They attack again.

And they don't quit; They keep it up until you're dead.

The cool part is that this strategy is nearly perfect when used
against an opponent who actually believes in a fair fight, in
conceding elections for "the good of the country", in waiting
for the next election cycle, and other such trite niceties.

Atlant

I voted for Durbin when I lived in Chicago.

Very popular senator, pretty sure the Chicago Democratic machine would go into overdrive against the repugs if they tried to recall Durbin.

On edit: The repugs also have poor short term memory. Dumbya got his ass handed to him in Illinois in 2000 (was one of the states where Gore had a lead outside the margin of error); also the "Land of Lincoln" went to Clinton in 92/96

20. Senators are not subject to recall
Their terms are set by the Constitution, and cannot be changed by the states (or the voters of the states). The only way they can be removed from office is to be expelled from the Senate.
