As of Friday, July 25, 239 U.S. soldiers have died since the beginning of military operations in Iraq, according to the Defense Department's most recent figures.

The British government has reported 43 casualties.

On or since May 1, when President Bush declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended, 101 U.S. soldiers have died in Iraq, according to the Pentagon's most recent figures.

The latest information from the U.S. military or families on U.S. casualties in Iraq:


Army Sgt. Juan M. Serrano, 31, of Manati, Puerto Rico, died of a head injury July 24 in Baghdad, Iraq. He was changing a tire on an M998 vehicle when it fell on him. Serrano was assigned to Headquarters, Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 37th Armor, 1st Armored Division, Friedberg, Germany.

Army Capt. Joshua T. Byers, 29, of Nevada, was killed July 23 east of Baghdad, Iraq, when his convoy hit an explosive device. Byers was assigned to Headquarters, Headquarters Troop, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Armored Calvary Regiment, in Fort Carson, Colo.

The Department of Defense identified the three U.S. soldiers killed July 24 when their convoy was attacked north of Al Hawd, Iraq. They were:

Army Sgt. Evan Asa Ashcraft, 24, of Oak Grove, Ky. He was assigned to the Company A, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division, in Fort Campbell, Ky.

Army Pfc. Raheen Tyson Heighter, 22, of Bay Shore, N.Y. He was assigned to the 2/320th Field Artillery, Fort Campbell, Ky.

Army Staff Sgt. Hector R. Perez, 40, of Corpus Christi, Texas. He was assigned to Company A, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division, in Fort Campbell, Ky.
