"WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Dick Cheney's office late Sunday confirmed that a personal physician has been removed from the vice president's official medical team in the wake of an article in The New Yorker magazine revealing that the doctor has abused prescription narcotics for years.

Cheney spokesman Kevin Kellems told CNN that the doctor, Gary Malakoff of George Washington University Medical Center, has been dropped by the vice president.

"Dr. Malakoff is no longer a member of the team that treats the vice president," Kellems said in a phone interview..."
