Ballpark Figures - The phony economic case for taxpayer-funded stadiums

I found this article which explains why it's a bad idea to use tax dollars to build sports stadiums. The arguments made by the writer of the article seem pretty good to me.

Would anyone here like to offer any comments on it?

1. a lot of good that does in Seatlle where voters aren't listened to

we voted down Safeco Field being built with taxpayer's money, but the city decided to do it anyway-even die-hard mariner's fans think voters got the shaft, and I think disenchanted a lot of voters, maybe so many that is why the Dem guv candidate isn't a shoe-in. our local government betrayed us, and will do it again.

2. I was very happy..

... that the Cowboys couldn't get the deal they wanted to build a stadium in Fair Park.

Now Arlington has picked them up. Their residents seem to be ok with getting yet another reaming from a major sports franchise.

My thinking has always been this:

Team One: shark businessmen whose own money is on the line

going up against

Team Two: Elected folks, often with no business background, who are playing with peoples tax money

Which team do you suppose wins EVERY SINGLE TIME? :)
