United States employers slashed over one million jobs in 2004 for the fourth straight year, the consulting firm Challenger, Gray and Christmas said on Wednesday.

The 1 039 735 job cuts however were 16 percent below the level of 2003, the firm said in a statement, and 47 percent less than the recession year of 2001. But the total was well above the average of 556 190 job cuts between 1993 and 2000.

1. I saw a pie chart about global job creation
a few days ago showing the bulk of new jobs to be coming from Asia and India.

What little of that coming from the western countries is too depressing to mention.
