IS CORVIS (NASDAQ:CORV - News) getting a bum deal?

Shares of the Columbia, Md., provider of communications equipment plummeted 26% to $1.47 after a Web site covering the telecom industry reported that Corvis lost out on a Defense Department contract that could've resurrected the company's fortunes. The report, published Friday and attributed to unnamed sources, said the military instead awarded the contract to help build an optical network called the Global Information Grid Bandwidth Expansion project, known as GIG-BE, to Ciena (NASDAQ:CIEN - News).

Can anyone explain why this is relevant to DU? and how the second author came to the conclusion (s)he did? I work for a small contractor, and have done work with DOD (mostly on small bus. set asides) and know they have some very odd contracting requirements and procedures, but I still don't see a relation to politics or any malfeasance. More information would be usful.

Who cares - can anyone explain why this is relevant to DU?

I'm not exactly chopped liver, and certainly not a high-tech or high tech investor expert ... but, in layman terms, I see it as: who profits?

I'm sure, as most of here are, you are familiar with Bush connections to The Carlyle Group which seems to be just profitting along in parallel to whistle ass's administration.

From what I understand, some people are concerned that they cannot invest in Actelis' patented technology which shortcuts fiber networks by using existing copper wiring ... but, The Carlyle Group has, and will profit by Actelis' product being placed on the GSA buying schedule ... it bothers some people who would like to have 300 times the current speed of DSL, technology which DoD gets to have, for their own home use ... some people are left out of the loop in more ways than one ... and, one is money ... and money is economics and economics is politics and the Bush Family Evil Empire are in the game ... are we?
