Economy's Growing, but Where Are the New Jobs?
Firms are expanding without hiring. Some analysts wonder if this change is permanent.
By Nicholas Riccardi
Times Staff Writer

February 15, 2005

Carlton Guthrie sees bright times ahead. After weathering the 2001 recession, his manufacturing company has made enough money to pay off some debt and position itself to expand.

But he's not planning to add jobs.

"I don't see us hiring anytime soon," said Guthrie, co-chairman of Detroit Chassis, which makes chassis for motor homes. "I see a tremendous amount of room for us becoming more efficient."<snip>

3. Bush's Missing 10.2 Million Jobs - Where's The Beef George?
Snip ......

"Over the last seven economic expansions the average rise for a comparable period was 8.7%. If that were the case on the current cycle there would have been 10.2 million more jobs than the total number reported for November, and the average monthly increase for the 36-month period would have been 316,000 per month. Instead the average monthly rise was a paltry 33,000, and even over the past 12 months when employment picked up somewhat, the average monthly increase came to only 171,000, a far cry from the typical cyclical increase. In fact only three months of the 36 showed increases of more than 300,000 jobs."

4. .... but Where Are the New Jobs?
"I don't see us hiring anytime soon," said Guthrie, co-chairman of Detroit Chassis, which makes chassis for motor homes. "I see a tremendous amount of room for us becoming more efficient."

Translation:
"I don't see us hiring any American's anytime soon," said Guthrie, co-chairman of Detroit Chassis, which makes chassis for motor homes. " But hiring a tremendous amount of illegal immigrants under the table for less than mimimum wage thanks to the bush admin is making us more profitable."

The reason the labor department can't show how many jobs are actually being created is because most of the new hires are being hired under the table for less than minimum wage, an estimate of 15b dollars last year alone in wire transfers went to mexico (mainly to bring family members across the border I suspect) that is why the ecomomy is going to hell.

5. I totally agree ,Charles !!!
The Big Chimp(Fascist George) wants to let Mexicans in to do the jobs that Americans won't do-what a joke! What jobs are left that haven't been outsourced or that illegal mexicans are doing under the table, below minimum wage?

7. Bingo!
What jobs are not outsourced are mostly going to immigrants, and all of this combined is seriously depressing the working class' wages. If you depend on working to survive, the shit has hit the fan and we are covered in it thanks to the politicians for the last 30 years.

All of you. Never let anyone ever tell you that they only take the jobs that Americans do not want. It is a lie, because Americans will and do work hard for a survivable wage. Those employing their cheap labor are only screwing the American worker, and that is a fact.
