Oil holds above $53, Venezuela says no OPEC output rise
LONDON, MARCH 4: Oil prices held firm above $53 on Friday after the president of OPEC member Venezuela said he saw no need to raise output to cool prices. US light crude was down 10 cents at $53.47 a barrel, holding below Thursday’s $55.20 peak, the highest price since the contract hit a record $55.67 on Oct. 25. Prices are up over 18% in the last four weeks. London Brent crude fell 25 cents to $51.70 a barrel after hitting $53.00 on Thursday, its highest price in 17 years of trade on the International Petroleum Exchange.
