Wal-Mart to Accept Checks Via Internet

BENTONVILLE, Ark. - Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Tuesday began accepting electronic checks from its online customers.

Earlier Tuesday, Certegy Inc. said it signed an agreement with Walmart.com to provide full check warranty and electronic check processing.

This new payment option, which went live in July, makes Wal-Mart one of the first mass retailers to let customers make purchases over the Internet using their checking accounts.

The Bentonville retail giant said it is offering the option in response to requests from its customers, since Internet retail sales are growing rapidly.
