Quebecor World Inc. said Thursday it plans to eliminate as many as 1,000 jobs from its worldwide work force after reporting a $62-million (U.S.) loss in the current quarter.
The Montreal-based print media services company said it recorded a loss of $62-million or 51 cents share after writedowns and restructuring charges of $82-million. The loss compares to earnings of $64-million or 40 cents a share in the second quarter of 2002.
Before charges Quebecor World recorded a loss of 7 cents a share. Revenues for the quarter were essentially flat compared to the same period last year at $1.5-billion.
