How will you spend your stimulus?
This morning on C-span Washington Journal I heard Economic Committee member, Carolyn Maloney D., 14th dist. N.Y., say that she had proposed to have the package issued in the form of a debit card to force the American workers to spend it quickly. She proposed having a short expiration date. It was discarded temporarily because it would take too long to implement.
How 'bout letting the people decide how to best spend their own money? I bought cell phones through AT&T that had rebates. Those rebates were in the form of debit cards which was not disclosed in the terms. I thought I was getting a check. Also the cards were confusing to use.
This may be something our government would consider for our future tax returns. This doesn't bode well for our financial freedom. What bugs me is that this came from a Democrat! Sen. Maloney , what about the lower and middle class's ability to save for it's future. Maybe I'll pay my taxes with a Walmart gift certificate to stimulate the economy! Maybe it's time for a third political party.

1. I still haven't heard if this is an actual rebate.
Or a payday loan scam like last time. This will be the determining factor.

7. It is similar to last night time, but not a scam.
They effectively lowered the lowest tax bracket and increased the child tax credit for 2008, but are giving you the “refund now.” Thus, you will simply file your 2008 return as if nothing happened (assuming the Senate doesn’t change it).

10. So I won't have to report this as miscellaneous income?
If I can safely spend it (or most of it), I have a little bit of a credit card balance I would like to reduce. I doubt thats what the Stimulati want me to do with it, but whatever. I'm sure a lot of other people will be doing the same thing.

16. In its current form, yes
I don't see it changing. It is really just a one year tax cut (and increase of credits).

5. I WON'T !
We will have to pay back every fucking penny of it. It has to go into savings to pay it back next year or the year after. JESUS!!! It is a loan people, WAKE UP! If enough of us tell them we have no intention of spending it then they MIGHT make a change, imo.

9. This supports the Repugs' "citizens can spend their money better "
meme. I want to use mine paying off debt, being responsible, acting like an accountable ADULT, not a consuming, self-absorbed child.

11. Thought I might use it to buy a wind generator.
think this might be a good investment and would help the environment. With our investment in
Solar power, we only need power during the cloudy days, when we usually have wind. I love the
thought of not using coal, oil and natural gas to run my house. Now, if the government would
just do some serious research in battery design and come up with a really good electric car,
to reduce our carbon footprint...

13. Debt
Auto loan I'm paying off as quickly as possible. If not for that, it would go entirely toward student loans to pay those off as quickly as possible. If not for that, it would go into savings.

20. Pay down debt.
There's no other good use for it in our house. With the refund we should get this year, we're starting up college savings for the kids and almost paying off one of our two cards. If we get this thing, it'll pay off the card entirely. Then, with one car getting paid off this spring and one set of student loans getting paid off next year, we'll get the other card paid off entirely, too. Whoo!

21. I'd pay down debt if I had any
and pay down outstanding bills if I had any.

As it is, I'll stuff it into the bank so I'll be ready to pay it back to the Fed next spring at tax time.

I think most folks will do that unless they've got kids who are being teased for wearing raggedy clothes. Kids always come first, then bills and debt.

The stimulus to the consumer economy will be minimal. The GOP will then be convinced that the taxpayers are too stupid to know what's good for them and shouldn't be given any more money in any form, especially higher wages.

24. ours is a 50" Wega LCD and they are having real issues with their Optical Blocks
I found several sites online with long threads about them.

after my research, if this is the problem, I have to take it 70 miles one way and leave it, pay the tech $225 and hope Sony will cover the parts

:banghead:

It's the 2nd Sony we've had trouble with, and the last one we'll buy I guarantee you.

Next one's a Mitsubishi.....
