Overheard grocery cashier talking to bagger about the tax rebate check
The bagger says "Are they going to do this every year?"
The cashier says "No it's just this year to help the economy. Ihey want us to go out and spend it"
The bagger says "Hm - I haven't heard anything about that"

Is this our electorate?

1. As H.L. Mencken said:
"No one in this world has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people. Nor has anyone ever lost public office thereby."

2. Is this our electorate?
It would seem our electorate is made up of people so busy working multiple jobs they have little time to keep up on current events beyond whatever they happen to hear on the car radio.

That is, if they can afford a car.

4. I think you are on the point -
I don't fault the bagger. This is an ancedote and I wouldn't presume to know his story. You don't have to be working multiple jobs to not know what's going on in the world at large. Many if not most people across the economic strata are simply living their lives without looking very far past their immediate surroundings.

5. If you work more than one job...
...that takes a lot of energy. Physical and emotional.

There is little time in the day and little energy to spare with issues that seem so far away especially when you work paycheck to paycheck.

Rent and dinner suddenly become emergencies.

3. No, not every year...
...just years when republicans ruin our economy and an important election is coming in the November following tax day...

6. Worse: Dems are wrong; economy HAS to be fine, or they wouldn't have $$ to send us all!
Comment made to Havocdad by a co-worker with a masters in science. If THAT is what education now give us, we're screwn

11. Gutenberg was god? Who knew?
As granddaughter, great-granddaughter, and great-great-granddaughter of men who printed newspapers, I argue that God had nothing to do with the enterprise.

My granddad learned his letters by playing with type blocks. When I was a kid, he MAY have seemed old enough to know god personally, but I sorta doubt god made the press my great-granddad hauled all over the west as territories were opened for homesteading. I KNOW god didn't have anything to do with the great-great granddad's press in New York.

12. Hey..
... I'd give them extra points for not listening to the MSM which is mostly lies and propaganda anyway.

Not knowing about this absurd "rebate" is hardly going to affect anyone's life.
