In 1976, a fictional character tells us what we're facing in 2008
Thirty plus years ago, a character named Howard Beale made a
permanent mark on American cinema in the movie
"Network." What Beale promoted and prophesized was
so relevant and ahead of it’s time, that as we sit here awash
in the mind-numbing excess of Reality TV and the
media/corporations/wall street/government sharing in one big
capitalistic orgy, one wonders when someone is going to be
"mad as hell, and not going to take it anymore."

This scene from Network is one of the most powerful and honest
explanations of how we have evolved from a democracy to a
corporation. Ned Beatty as Arthur Jensen delivers a powerful
and evangelical speech that is as chilling as it is truthful.
And Jensen also understands the power of television in shaping
our views.

Is someone else going to be mad as hell? As part of our
overall mission to take on Wall Street, we’ll be releasing a
video soon pointing out the similarities to our real life
situation today with the chilling speech that Arthur Jensen
gives on the future in 1976, a shocking assertion made at the
time. Our own video has some prescient warnings to share.

If you share our anger at Wall Street getting away with theft
for all these years, please help us get the word out. Like
T.E. Scott, you may be called a "crazyman" by those
who can’t comprehend that one of the foundations of American
business is actually a giant rigged casino.

Politicians won’t act until they feel the pressure of the
public. The public won’t act until they know the truth about
Wall Street. You, me, WE need to move this mission forward.
This goes beyond just selling a book, this is us taking on a
seemingly impossible task because if we don’t who will?

1. Has This Movie Been Shown On Television Lately?......
I have Cable TV with 5 or so Premium Channels that all branch out with a number of additional channels with which to view movies. Old movies, new movies, classic movies, comedies, dramas, documentary movies, etc. I can't remember ever seeing any of these channels running this movie. In my mind Network is a classic movie and one with a message - yet I don't remember ever watching it on Cable.

Are they running it and I just miss it. Or is this one being kept away from public viewing because it's too close to the truth.

I'm going to have to look for a DVD to purchase - if that's available.

3. Yes! It's been shown on a couple of cable movie stations

It's a topical movie that's held up very well.

Another rant worth looking up on You Tube is Matt Damon's rant from "Good Will Hunting" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxm7-yM7l1s&feature=related

Another favorite is Chayevsky's "The Hospital." It's dated, but the rants in that one have held up extremely well.

4. From Hud:
"Little by little the look of the country changes because of the men we admire".

The movie came out in 1963. I didn't see it until 20 years later, on TV, and almost fell off the couch at the prescience of that line.

Here's a link to some more about the film: http://www.filmsite.org/hud.html

7. Yes, former Welsh protogee' Gary Wendt
Wendt bragged when he took over Conseco in Indiana that he was only taking $1 per year in salary until the company recovers. What he didn't mention was that he got a $28 million signing bonus and two years later, a $42 million buyout. Meanwhile, 3,000 employees lost their jobs, the company remained in bad shape, and Wendt received $70,000,002.

Scum-squared.

6. Corporate murder for ratings.
Is that fiction?

Hundreds of thousands of dead Iraqi's for the ratings of ABC/CBS/NBC/CNN/FOX.

Hundreds of thousands of dead Iraqi's for the profit of Halliburton/Lockheed/Bechtel.

"I'm mad as hell & I'm not going to take it anymore."

I'm listening closely, but I don't hear that call for action in my neighborhood. I don't hear that call for action in the neighborhood next to mine.

I DON'T HEAR IT!!

Why not?
